Painted Bunting, Wildlife art

"Painted Bunting"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This is the male bunting that I got pictures of through the window. Very blurry pictures to work from! I love the way the sunlight made all of his colors so vibrant.

Enjoy!

Bunting, wildlife art

"Bunting"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas
Not Available

I enjoyed taking pictures of this female bunting on our bird feeder, through the kitchen window! The photos leave a lot to be desired, but the painting turned out very nice.

This is not a great photo of the painting, tried three times, it really is much more vibrant in color.

Luke's Tractor, mural in progress

"Luke's Tractor"
9 x 12 feet
Acrylic on a wall
Not Available

I brightened up the colors in the sky and began adding some details to the back ground. The tractor still needs attention. The trees on the sides will go up and out, becoming much larger.
Detail of the crop duster, mud, cows, and distant trees.

Added clouds, roughed in the tractor, and added the beginning of the border trees.

First lay in of large areas of base colors. The walls are a denim blue color.

At the Lake Again, Bald Eagle,

"At The Lake Again"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

While I was at the lake I saw this eagle on the shore. He was feasting on his catch and then he flew around for a while! I got a few pictures of him, most where blurry. But I wanted to capture the memory anyway.
I love the way the clouds are dancing around.

Thanks for looking!

A and D Ranch, 2, Plein Air

"A and D Ranch, 2"
6 x 8 inches
Acrylic on canvas panel

This painting will be available in a few weeks. This is another sample painting for a larger canvas later.
I enjoyed going out and taking in all the fresh air in the morning sun. It turned cold that morning with a cold wind, 50 degrees or so. For us that is chilly!

Rebekah's Beach, Mural completed

Rebeka's Beach, Mural,
acrylic on a wall

(I blocked the glare from the window for a better photo, makes the sand look darker.)

An angel looks out from behind a cloud. Blends in nicely.

Two angels here. (Click the image to enlarge it.)

The volleyball and the net are in Gator colors (University of Florida).

Finished up Rebekah's Beach today. Approx 13 x 8 feet. I love the angel sitting on the cloud to the right of the sun. There are seagulls and seashells too. Wonderful bold colors! I think Rebekah will really like it. She plays volleyball and her team went to state competition! Way To Go, Rebekah!

Sunset with Rocks, Daily Painting

"Sunset Rocks"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is a study of the rocks. I was fascinated with all the reflected colors. The rocks looked blue and purple! I started out just painting the colors in bold broad strokes, and thought about just leaving it that way. Then I decided to refine it and add the details, which I absolutely love to do! I painted this from photos I took last week of Nubbin's Slough.

Thanks for looking!

This painting has been altered, please see "Sunset Rocks" on 12-5-11 for updated version. Added an angel and birds. ( Interesting : the photography here is done in cool, outdoor lighting, the photography on the updated painting is done indoors with warmer light.....quite a big difference.)

Lake Sunset, Plein Air Painting

"Lake Sunset"
6 x 8 inches
Acrylic on canvas panel
(ready to frame)

Stole an hour at sunset tonight. Rarely do I get to paint on location in the evening. In fact this is the first one I have done outside at sunset! The colors were so vibrant, I really didn't do it justice. But it felt good to get out there!
This is at Nubbin's Slough. The water is coming up some, but there is still a lot of land where it used to be all under water. It has been about a year and a half now that Lake Okeechobee has been so low. I added the birds when I got home.
Enjoy!

Mountain Morning, Alla Prima

"Mountain Morning"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on card-stock
Not Available

Did this one a while ago, as a painting lesson at the high school. My students were working on using thick paint and letting the brush strokes show while we studied the Impressionism Movement in art history.
I made this painting up off of the top of my head, and did it alla prima (all at once) in one session. To much fun! That is always a satisfying experience, and I loved it instantly! I have used it for several classes and now I thought I would post it.

Thanks for looking and may God grant you a beautiful day.

Rebekah's Beach, mural in progress

Clouds are started, sand is a better color and the volleyball net is placed, but will need more work.

I'll put an angel sitting on a cloud, and one looking from behind one. Flowers and birds will be fun to add as well!

Blocking in large areas of color.

First lay in.

Water Lilies

"Water Lilies"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas

I was very interested in the reflections at first. Then I had to decide what was the focal point? So I played down the reflections and emphasized the lily pads and the flowers. Finally, after the second try, I had a good composition. Now the reflection of the tree sets off the water lilies, instead of distracting from them!
Thanks for looking!

This painting has been reworked. See April 2010 for update.
