Sweet Summer Memories

"Sweet Summer Memories"

About This Painting:
After painting this little landscape I just couldn't resist adding the tire-swing in remembrance of all the fun at many different swimming holes with a rope or a tire swing over the water! usually it was up on a higher hill than this. I remember a group of kids pushing each other, and 2 or 3 trying to jump on the swing at the same time! Someone usually got pushed in or fell off.

Energized, abstract art

Wild Azaleas

"Wild Azaleas"

About This Painting:
Alla prima, painted all at once. Just playing around with lots of thick paint. I wanted to create an almost abstract look and still keep the essence of the flower. Too much fun!
The painting continues on the sides, so framing is optional.

Letting Go, palette knife abstract

"Letting Go"

About This Painting:

This palette knife painting started as a color study. It soon became a metaphor for inner struggles. I sensed the pull in my soul to hang onto things that people have done and said that hurt me, and I felt the release when I let go and forgave them. I am learning to do this right away, and not let it build over time.

This abstract painting is symbolic in many ways. The movement of the paint represents moving on, getting free from things that keep us from joy. The red and orange colors are for anger and heat, and the dark purple and black are for spiritual death that we find in unforgiveness. The white is the way of escape that Father God is always faithful to provide.

The cool colors at the bottom are the streams of refreshing we find in letting go.

By forgiving others, even when they do not ask for it, we can let go of offenses and not become resentful, which only hurts us, not them.

Wading White Ibis

"Wading White Ibis"

About This Painting:
I painted this from pictures of white ibis that I took after tropical storm Faye last year. We don't have flooded fields these days. We sure do need some rain! I love the color of their long curved beaks. They poke it deep into the mud to find their meals.

Flowers For Mom

"Flowers For Mom"

About This Painting:
My Daily Painters group is posting paintings for our monthly theme today, so it will show up on DP tomorrow. 'Celebrating Mothers' is the theme. I wanted to do something very bright with happy wishes for all moms!
This is a palette knife painting, which is so fun to create. The paint can be scraped out for thin transparent areas, and laid on very thick for tactile texture. I started with a thin yellow under painting, and decided to keep it and add white to it in the background. I just let the feelings pour out of me as I quickly threw green leaves all over the place. I wanted to get the feeling of growth and movement, so I off centered the leaves to emphasize that. Then I added the red roses for contrast. I love the way this one turned out. Thanks for stopping by!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
Ready to frame.

Size: 8 in X 10 in (20.3 cm X 25.4 cm)

Painted Paint, A paint horse up close

"Painted Paint"
About This Painting:
This was inspired by Kathy Papasso's painting called "Bull's Eye" which I have always thought was an exceptional painting (see my side-bar for her work).

I wanted to capture the texture and close feel of the fur, but the eyes quickly took over to become the focal point. I used two pictures of Paint Horses, and two of Thoroughbreds for references. Then I free handed the drawing onto the canvas before I began painting it. It has taken over a month to finish it.

Media: acrylic on canvas
Size: 16 in X 12 in (40.6 cm X 30.5 cm)
