First Time for Everything, new foal running

"First Time for Everything"

This little colt had a hard start, he got hung up with one hoof coming out the rectum, and one bent back the wrong way. The vet had to push him back in and then turn him the right way.... Needless to say, after they pulled him out, the mare was pretty torn up. So they spent the first four days in a stall because the mare couldn't move about yet. It was her first foal. So here he is on his fourth day of life, and this is his first race! The sun was going down and he was tearing up some ground! I got some great photos.

Each time the colt took off, the mare would call him back, and he would race right to her side, breathing hard. Then he would take off again! The mare could not run with him, and she didn't like it one bit, so she would call him back again. I just loved seeing how he would mind her everytime she called to him.
