Mama's Girl, Cow with calf

"Mama's Girl"

About This Painting:
I really like the strong temperature contrasts: the cool blues tones against the warm browns. I wanted to keep the loose brush strokes so it would have an impressionistic look, yet I wanted it to be realistic too. It is hard to get both affects. I think I was successful.

The breeding is an Italian breed, called Romagnola. This is Joshua Mixon's new calf, and I used his photograph, by permission, to paint her.

The painting continues on the sides so framing is optional.

Media: acrylic on canvas
Size: 10 in X 8 in (25.4 cm X 20.3 cm)
SOLD

Down By The Water, Animal art, young cow

"Down By The Water"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas
Sold

Saw this young cow while taking a boat ride up the creek. She was the only cow around and was very close to the edge, which I thought was odd. The rest of the herd was probably just over the hill. I was attracted to the bright sunlit grass and the wonderful shadows in the foreground.

Thanks for looking!

Luke's Tractor, completed mural

"Luke's Tractor"
Acrylic on a wall
Approximately 9 x 13 feet

Luke is in the tractor with an angel behind him.

Air plane in the sky, angel flying with it.

click on this one to see the doe and fawn in the middle ground.
Cows are in the distance, and hogs are in the mud.

Luke's dog is chasing a rabbit.

This mural just kept growing! I was so excited when the little boy in the tractor began to actually look like Luke! That took a few tries. Luke wanted the tractor stuck in the mud, but I liked it with the grass and didn't want to change it, so I added some mud on the tires.

I brightened up the colors in the sky and began adding some details to the back ground. The tractor still needs attention. The trees on the sides will go up and out, becoming much larger.
Detail of the crop duster, mud, cows, and distant trees.

Added clouds, roughed in the tractor, and added the beginning of the border trees.

First lay in of large areas of base colors. The walls are a denim blue color.

Rucks Road 3, Plein Air Painting

"Rucks Road 3"
16 x 20 inches
Acrylic on canvas

I didn't get today's painting finished. So I am posting this one it's place.
I did this back when I first started doing plein air painting. It took a couple of days to get it done because it is so large for a plein air painting. It was hot and the bugs were horrid. I almost hung up plein air painting all together!

Out to Pasture Too, equine art by Fawn

"Out to Pasture Too"
18 x 24 inches
Acrylic on gallery wrap canvas
(painting continues on the sides, framing is optional)
$5,000.00

I have been working on this painting all week. I am getting ready for two more shows, and wanted some larger work than my small Daily Paintings. This is a repeat of a painting I did years ago. I reversed the whole composition and made the colors softer this time (which I really like). I used a different horse and used a larger canvas. I have added a blue heron instead of an alligator in the foreground. This painting has a more impressionistic quality to it as well.

Lots of symbolism: End of summer, last season of life for the horse too. Time to slow down, time to retire. The colors emphasize that.

From Ruck's Road, Dairy Cows, Plein Air Painting by Fawn

"From Rucks Road"
16 x 20 inches
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This is one of my earlier plein air paintings. I did three paintings of the dairy cows on this country road. It wasn't so bad while I did this one very early. But then the cows came up near me . . . It was smelly, had lots of flies, and I was dripping in sweat by 8:00 am! I tried to shoo them off, but they hung out next to the fence.
Needless to say, I learned to set up in the shade, and I have not gone near the dairy to paint again! LOL.

Separated, Impressionism, Young Cow, Daily Painting by Fawn

"Separated"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on canvas

SOLD

This is a painting I did last year in November. I have brightened it up quite a bit as I was never satisfied with it. Now it makes a stronger statement.
This little cow was separated from the others and when I came around the trees I was between her and the herd. She was as startled as I was and I thought she might charge at me! But she stomped, snorted and ran around until she got closer to the others.

What was That? Realistic Impressionism

"What Was That?"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on canvas board
Sold

This is a young cow (cows often have horns too- not just bulls). She was quite skittish. I love the contrast and the motion here.

I was out of town yesterday, so this morning I took a good look at this little guy and made some adjustments. I added detail to the background, and I fattened up the calf some. I am satisfied with it now.

Wild River Cow, Impressionism, Animal Art

" Wild River Cow"
5 x 7 inches
Acrylic on gessoed board
SOLD

I am intrigued with these cows. They got stranded on an island on the Kissimmee River years ago when the Florida Water Management straightened out the river. Every two or three years a group of cowboys would get together and try to round them up. These are animals that know nothing about a round up! Very dangerous.

Brahman Bull, Daily Pinting, Impressionism,Animals

9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on Ampersand gessobord

SOLD

Brahmas used to be the main type of cattle around here. They are hearty and can withstand the hot weather. some of the cows will eat the oranges that fall on the ground, it is funny to watch them wrinkle up their nose and slobber all over the place!
