At the Park Again, plein air, landscape, pond with lilies

"At the Park Again"

Back at White City Park, just can't get over how beautiful it is! Felt like I was part of a fairytale, so I used purple and blue to get started, which gives it that enchanted feeling. I added Lori McNamara in the little pavilion in the distance, as she was painting on the other side of the pond (click on the image for a zoomed in view.)

Had wonderful paint-out in Fort Peirce today -- Everything was bright and colorful. It was my first time out in a few months. A cool breeze, warm sunshine, lilies blooming, and all kinds of birds posing right in front of me.... Got a lot of great pictures while I painted this scene. Totally enjoyed myself.

Thanks for looking!

Eagle Bay Palm, plein air landscape

"Eagle Bay Palm"

About This Painting:
This is a plein air painting (out on location) that I did a few years ago. Eagle Bay is a large marsh next to Lake Okeechobee and it hooks up to the rim canal. Usually you can see lots of wildlife all around this area. I liked the way the palm tree just stuck out of the top of all the brush. I have just gone back and added more highlights, and some egrets too.
Ready to frame.

Media: acrylic on hardboard
Size: 8 in X 10 in (20.3 cm X 25.4 cm)

Spoonbill, plein air landscape

"Spoonbill"

About This Painting: Went out to the Adams Ranch for an annual artist's day paint out. This is one of the many natural springs that flow through the ranch. The water is clear and very turquoise. this photo doesn't pick up the colors in the painting very well, but the blues are a little more of a greenish hue.

I added the spoonbill when I got home, I had seen it flying overhead while out painting, way too cool! (Spoonbills have a shorter neck than flamingos, and they range from white and soft light pinks to dark pinks, almost a red color, and sometimes they have yellow accents too. Very strange-looking bird, with a flat duck-like bill. Very pretty colors though!)

The painting continues on the sides which are close to 2 inches thick, so framing is optional.

Before the Rain, swamp landscape with eagle

"Before the Rain"

About This Painting:
Plein air painting, Lori McNamara and I got rained out. Some of the painting was distorted slightly, but most of it held up with the rain water all over it. I repainted parts of it and finished it at home. The eagle was off to the right of this area. Lori got a great picture of him, it is posted on her blog. I moved him to the left so I could include him in my painting.

Ready to frame.

Media: acrylic on hardboard
Size: 6 in X 6 in (15.2 cm X 15.2 cm)
Price: $100 USD

Pond with Lilies, plein air watercolor study

Pond with Lilies

About This Painting:
From 2 weeks ago, at White City Park. had a great day out painting by one of the ponds.

Didn't get to paint today. Left everything in my car while I went out taking pictures at the Savanna Recreational area. Got back to get out my paints, and couldn't find my keys! They were in my purse on the front seat with the doors locked! So my husband had to come to Ft. Pierce and rescue me. Then while I waited for him, the batteries died in my camera. Rough morning! We salvaged the day by eating a nice lunch, on me of course!

Ready to frame.

New Love, red rose, floral

"New Love"

About This Painting:
This is a little plein air painting. I have been trying to get out more and work on location. It is also alla prima (all at once).
I had set up near my driveway and then found out I was in pile of ants. Not fun! Had to get some ant killer and relocate, but I didn't want to change the view. Got close enough, and it seems to have turned out alright!

On the Double, hibiscus flower

"On the Double"
About This Painting:
I painted this double hibiscus yesterday in the late afternoon out in my yard. It is plein air (on location), and alla prima (all at once).
It is also a watercolor painting, which is not my usual medium. But I hope to start using watercolors more often. I love the watermarks and cool effects you get sometimes, like little surprises!

Good Luck, Hawaiian Ti plant

"Good Luck"

This Hawaiian Ti plant grows in my front yard. It is also called the Good Luck plant! It has been mowed over, blown down and finally was saved as a cutting. It came back a little shorter, but very lovely. I was drawn to the reds and pinks. When the sun hits it it looks fake!
This painting is called 'En Plein Air', which means it was done outside, on location.
Found the perfect frame for it, which compliments it well.

Enjoy!

Sunny Shadows, plein air painting

"Sunny Shadows"
About This Painting:
Got out this morning, and painted these lovely shadows on the side of the house! I was interested in the way the bright yellow plant contrasted with the blue cast shadows on the house. I also liked the way the whole painting translated into spots of color and light.
Ready to frame.

Orchid Study, plein air

Orchid Study
About This Painting:
Got out this morning and painted these lovely orchids that my husband grows. This is actually the second try, as the first one got to detailed in the background and took away from the flowers, So I simplified the background and then repainted the orchids!
It was a wonderful morning, cool and breezy for a change. I was enjoying myself and then just as I was finishing the second try, my husband starts weed-eating! There were bugs and grass flying everywhere. So I called it quits and helped with the yard work.
Thanks for looking!

Spider Lily Morn, plein air painting

"Spider Lily Morn"
About This Painting:
I got out very early this morning, to paint before the heat is unbearable. The spider lilies are blooming everywhere, and these had a nice tree behind them to set them off. I darkened the colors of the sky too, as the sunlight began to shine right on the lilies. The colors were amazing.
I had a client ask me if they were real, she said they look like something from outer space!
Painted en plein air, alla prima. (Out doors, all in one session.)
Ready to frame.

Size: 6 in X 6 in (15.2 cm X 15.2 cm)
Price: $250 USD

Oak Study, Plein Air Painting

"Oak Study"

About This Painting:
I went to the coast and painted with my plein air group today. (Worked on location outside.) This old oak blew over years ago. The way it grew back interested me because of its very graceful shape. If I use it for a larger painting I will add a muddy bank and some water and a rope swing hanging over the water, now that sounds fun!
Ready to frame.

"Winter Blooms"

These bougainvillaeas are blooming in my front yard. So striking against all the brown grass and leafless trees. It was windy and I didn't stay out long, but I really enjoyed it.
This is my first chance to do any plein air painting in months. After my husband got so sick I only stole an hour here and there while he was sleeping. So good to have him back! He is about 80 % back to his old self. I should say his new self. He is so grateful and opens up more often now.

Media: acrylic on hardboard

Rising Water, plien air painting

"Rising Water"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas board
(canvas mounted on hardboard)
Ready to frame

This is a painting I did on location last July. I have reworked it a little because it had always bothered me. I have toned it down some and added an egret and an alligator. The alligators are often hard to see, so I hid him at the lower right. (Click on the image for zoom.)

This painting is at Lake Okeechobee. Our lake is up to an average of ten feet now. Still very low. almost two years now it has been so low.

There is a teenage boy that was attacked by an alligator here at Nubbin's Slough last month. Why he was in the water swimming at night in this area is beyond me. You can see large alligators that live here at any given time. They wait by the lock where the water flows into the lake and feed on anything that comes through.

Rain Rain Go Away, Plein Air

"Rain Rain Go Away"
12 x 24 inches
Acrylic on canvas
ready to frame

This is another older painting that I did on location a few years ago, before I started posting on line. I was really into thin layers of paint, then sealing them with a varnish. When all the craze came out with the watercolor canvases I moved on to something else.
It actually started raining off and on. I loved the effect it created in the background. As it dried I added the thicker layers of foliage over the top.

Gardens Past, Plein air painting

"Gardens Past"
14 x 18 inches
Acrylic on canvas
(ready to frame)
$1,800.00

This is another older painting that never got to post because I painted it before I started blogging.
The sprinklers got turned on while I was painting this garden statue. Some of the paint ran and so I played it up and exaggerated the effect.
I am still working on murals, so my daily paintings are taking longer. I do still paint everyday, but I am not pushing myself to finish one everyday because I don't want to loose the quality I am used to achieving. I have a new small daily painting very close to being done. I worked on it this weekend, but I also had company, so I didn't get as many hours in as I would have liked.
The huge wall paintings are really kicking my butt! I am wonderfully exhausted. It is a mix of adrenaline, accomplishment, and sore achy body parts! "Luke's Tractor" should be done this week. I am getting paid extra to add lots of extra subject matter. I have even painted little Luke in the tractor! And his dog chasing a rabbit! Too much fun.
