Art Show

Had a rough start, spilled coffee all over my shirt first thing in the morning, before the show began. Can you believe that I didn't even think to bring an extra one? Will have to add that to my list for next year......

Anyway, I went in the bathroom to take off the outer shirt thinking I would leave my white tank shirt on that I had underneath..... But the worst of the coffee was on the undershirt. So I took off both shirts and rinsed as much of the stains out as I could, and wore the cold and wet shirt (on my right side) that you see in the picture above. Then I hung the white tank-top shirt up in my car.

I did have a jacket I wore for a little while. Thank Goodness I wasn't set up out in the cold windy morning!

How embarrassing!

The rest of the day went well, and I even won a ribbon. It is not a first place, or is it? It is called The Parrish award, in honor of Grady Parrish, who selected an artist each year for environmental awareness in their art. It came with a nice cash prize as well, so I was happy!

Fall's Splendor, landscape with deer and eagles

"Fall's Splendor"

Acrylic on canvas

12 x 16 inches

Painted this scene from plein air studies (done on location) and pictures I took a few years ago. I added the deer from memory, and the eagles as well. Really enjoyed creating all the warm colors contrasting with the cool gray and blue hues.

Up-coming Lake Placid show

"Firce Beauty"

Best of Show

20 x 20 inches

Gallery Wrap Canvas

I am excited to go back to Sebring, Florida, where the Lake Placid Art League is holding their annual show! (This photo is from last year.) This is one of the shows I love to do, because they have an indoor option if you don't want to set up a tent.

The hardest part is that I am by myself. I have found that setting up a tent, putting my work at risk in the elements, and sitting all day (without being able to even use the bathroom) are all more than enough reasons to limit myself to indoor shows and gallery events!

Come see me on Saturday at the Civic Center on Hwy 27 south of Sebring, Florida. I'll be indoors at booth number 21. Yay!

Hope to see you there!

Rocky Edge, bushes on a rocky shore

"Rocky Edge"

I was attracted to the contrast of the cold rocks against the warm glow in the little bushes. I also like the harsh edges of the rocks against the soft feeling of the water.

Trying some new techniques. This is a watercolor painting, done with many layers of professional color on acid-free paper. Had to start over completely because the colors are not easy to control and I lost the bright highlights in the first attempt.

Enjoy!

On a personal note: I have been teaching more classes and painting less these days. I am also working on updating all my info as I have a new website and new gallery pages. I didn't realize that I have around 800 posts to update! Wow, that amazes me!

Also, I want to thank all of my followers and collectors who have encouraged me over these past five years! It has been a great journey for me.

Mud Bath, animal portrait, pig covered in mud

"Mud Bath"

I had a blast splashing mud on this guy! I free-handed him onto the canvas and had him all pretty and white, but I just could not help myself. He his a pig after all! So I started with a few little spots of mud, and next thing you know, well, he was covered in it! Then I had to go back and clean him up a little so you could still see his eyes.....Too much fun.

The original is created on gallery wrap canvas. The painting continues on the sides, so framing is optional.

Enjoy!

Bull Headed, brahman bulls

"Bull Headed"

About This Painting:
This one of my early works, done in oils. Did some new photography of it to make it available in print. I had originally titled it on the back "Bull Headed." For years I have called it "Stand Firm" and had some small prints made of it. The quality of my earlier prints do not compare to the clarity and color of this new series.

Winter's Coming, fall landscape with stream

"Winter's Coming"

This one came right out of an art instruction book for my adult class. I encourage using different colors, and moving things around some to make it more original. My students didn't like this one at first, but I really liked the change of colors, and the strong contrast it has.

Enjoy!

Hopeful Morn, misty sunrise, deer, eagles

"Hopeful Morn"

This is an older painting that I believe I have never posted. It is a tribute to the Bald Eagle making a comeback in Florida. I have always loved the colors and the mood this painting sets. I took pictures of these eagles nesting at a ranch here in Okeechobee.

Enjoy!

I cleaned this painting up and did some new photography on it for prints. Click here for info on greeting cards and prints of this painting!

Sweet Summer, mountain landscape with horses grazing

"Sweet Summer"

Some of my memories of Montana. This is the Swede Mountain range, just across the street from my Grandmother's house. Rode horses with my friends in these mountains. There is a lookout tower at the top just off to the left of this scene. Nothing like good childhood memories.

Sandy Beach, demo, sand dune study, seascape

"Sandy Beach"
Acrlic on hardboard
9 x 12 inches
Not available

Created this fun little beach study with my students last week. We took a look at how to use unusual shapes for the clouds, and then we spent a lot of time on creating sandy texture and splash in the water. We used 2 different images to paint this common scene. I especially like the highlights and shadows at the top of the dune.

Rock of Moses, abstract knife painting

"Rock of Moses"

About This Painting:
Just experimenting with a palette knife and warm colors verses cool colors again. This one reminded me of water gushing up. I thought about the story of Moses in the hot dry land: when he struck the rock water came forth!

Enjoy!
