Maggie Mae, yellow labrador, animal portrait

"Maggie Mae"
24 x 30 inches
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

In  memory of Maggie.  Combined different images to put this custom painting together.  The rocks were very challenging! Wanted them to look just like the rocks on her wall.  So many wonderful contrasts: soft fur and hard rocks, pink azaleas and green grass... Yellow butterflies for added accents, just love co-creating custom orders with my clients!

Chloe and Sweetie, macaw and green-cheek parrot

"Chloe and Sweetie"

So excited to finally get to post this!  It was a custom painting for a Christmas present, so I didn't want to spoil the surprise!

Used different photos of these two, and combined them into one setting.  Had to figure out the size relationship between them... Love the colors and simulated textures.

New Hope, Brahmans, cattle, Florida Art

"New Hope"

Painted this a couple of years ago, but didn't get to post it because I couldn't get a good image of it.  I  wanted to make it available in prints, so I tried again. (This painting includes a unique custom frame.)

I actually took pictures of this calf peeking around a tree.  The mother was a little farther away.  Took a lot of nice images of different cows and bulls as well.  Next, I sketched out some ideas before drawing this composition onto the canvas.  I added water and mist to the background for that foggy morning haze that is so common around here. The flowers add the feeling of spring, a time for new life and hope.

I Am, true immortal, Jesus

"I Am"
20 x 24 inches
Acrylic on canvas

By far the Most challenging thing I have ever painted.  More than a year of work, and many tears went into this painting.

I kept thinking about the focus of Halloween: fear, death, blood, the un-dead, etc....  I thought about the one who brings love, life, forgiveness, joy, and restoration.  I'm not talking about religion or rules or tradition.  (I'm talking about the man who gave us two commandments: Love God Almighty with all your mind, heart and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself.) So I wanted the focus to be on him!

"Very Truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I Am!"  John 8:58

Rough Water, Pelican, Wildlife, realism

"Rough Water (Pelican)"
©FawnMcNeill 2004
11 x 14 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
SOLD

I created this painting quite a few years ago-- from some photos I took at the Fort Pierce inlet. It began as a palette knife painting. But then I got into the brush work applied over the cool textures that the knife made. I love the hard rocks against the feathers, and all of that against the moving water. Nice contrasts. Added lots of details.

Gulf Breeze, seascape, sandy shore

"Gulf Breeze"

Just finished this one this morning!  Worked on it for a few weeks. I used some of my older photos as a spring board, then moved things around for a stronger composition.  Originally wanted to keep it more impressionistic and painterly, but once again I added more and more detail.

Exclusive Art
14 x 18 inches
Acrylic on canvas
Unique custom frame (see below)
$1,200.00

Rock Wall, mini mural, stones, faux finish

Acrylic Mural

I've wanted to paint rocks on the wall above my counters for years!  So this summer I finally did it!
I love the colors and the texture, but most of all the way it actually tricks the eye to look like real stones piled up on each other.  The wall was textured, so that helped with the illusion.

Here is how I started.  The far right side was the hardest to reach:

I removed the switch plates and sanded them with sand paper to roughen them up some, then I primed them with gesso, so the paint won't be as apt to peal.  You can see how I matched the left one into the mural below.

Red oxide, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, white, black, and yellow oxide turned out to be the colors I used the most.  I used Liquitex Basics (not the Matte series). I kept the paint moist with a small spritzer bottle of water, misting a little bit more often instead of a lot all at once, so as to not make puddles.  Used a palette knife to paint some extra texture now and then, also used a crumpled paper towel for some of the texture.  Had to leave it alone and let it thoroughly dry between coats before painting over the extra texture or it would just take the paint off.  The textured wall made it easy to add more texture, and I didn't need much.  It also made it interesting, trying to use it to enhance the rocks.  I kept my shadows consistent with the light source of the window, giving the rocks some depth.

This took me a week, 3 or 4 hours every time I had a chance.
Approximately 25 hours
