Lifting Fog, cardinal, turkey, deer, Florida art

 "Lifting Fog"

I worked on this painting off and on for a couple of years.  Just finished it in January, 2019, when I added the cardinal.  He was the whole point to begin with, so I was glad to finally put him in there!

The cardinal kept posing for me while I was scouting the area for a good place to set up my easel.  I did several small plein air (on location) studies farther down this muddy road.  I actually got my shoes wet taking photos of this old fence!

Rise and Shine, dairy cows and deer at sunrise

"Rise and Shine"
©2014

I created this painting for the new year quite some time ago. I used to live out on Rucks Road, and the Dairy was just around the corner. Took lots of photos and did some plein air studies too. Bright sunlight is breaking through the cool morning shadows. Symbolic for a new start, putting off the old and walking in the light. It is about overcoming depression and finding joy again.

Face Time, fawn in the grass close up

"Face Time"

I have worked on this painting for over a year, off and on.  Re-drew him ten times at least! I like to free-hand most of my work, so I tend to do a lot of adjusting instead of just filling in color.  I think it gives me more freedom to exaggerate things or change the perspective as needed.

This was fun because his eye was so big and gorgeous, I just had to play it up!  And also because I haven't done my namesake in such a long time.

About the painting:

Prairie Does, wildlife art

"Prairie Does"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic
$850.00

This one is actually titled "Paines Prairie" but I changed the title on the prints, which I thought was funny (instead of prairie dogs).
This painting has a lot more than meets the eye because of the memories that go with it.

I was at a Plein Air (out doors) workshop in Gainesville, Florida and these deer jumped out at different sides of the field.  They were very fast! I got a few good pictures and add-libbed the rest after I got home to work to my warm studio.  There was ice and frost on the palm trees that morning, and it only warmed up to about 40 degrees through the day! My little windbreaker jacket was not near enough to keep the cold wind out, but I stuck with it.

Paradise at Sunset, Florida landscape with wildlife

"Paradise at Sunset"

This painting is the second in a series I started this summer.  I created them both from memory.  The animals are free-handed onto the canvas after I practice drawing them on paper first.  This time I reversed things and brightened the sky. Also included deer, egrets, turkey, hogs, and a gator. This is a truly original painting.  Most of mine are (unless I am doing one for a client that wants something from their photos).  I use my own images and /or my own sketches and free-hand everything.  Many artists today copy from photos, literally.  They get enlargements trace it off -- and sometimes it is not even their own photos!  You can read more about that by clicking here.

Hopeful Morn, misty sunrise, deer, eagles

"Hopeful Morn"

This is an older painting that I believe I have never posted. It is a tribute to the Bald Eagle making a comeback in Florida. I have always loved the colors and the mood this painting sets. I took pictures of these eagles nesting at a ranch here in Okeechobee.

Enjoy!

I cleaned this painting up and did some new photography on it for prints. Click here for info on greeting cards and prints of this painting!

Cam's Garden, landscape, deer in the woods

Cam's Garden

(Detail)

About This Painting:

Been working on this painting off and on for about two years now. I wanted to use an impressionistic style, yet add quite a bit of detail too. Sometimes it is hard to get the right balance of these two ideas, but I must say it really worked!

Enjoy!

On The Edge, landscape with deer

"On The Edge"
©Fawn McNeill 2011

Went back and strengthened the shadows and some of the colors in this older painting, and added the doe. Always felt like something should go in the opening. I originally painted this one from pictures I took out painting on location. There were lots of deer in the area, but my photos of the deer didn't turn out very well. I created this doe from memory.

Enjoy!

California Colors 2, landscape with a deer

"California Colors 2"
About this painting: I painted this from pictures I took out in Oakview just before Christmas. There were actually 2 deer together here , and before that I saw 3 in a different area! I was interested in the big old oak tree up on the hill, and the bright greens really set it off!
Enjoy!

Paynes Prairie 2, reworked landscape with deer

"Paynes Prairie 2"
About This Painting:
This is an older painting that I have wanted to add deer to for quite sometime! I took pictures of these doe running away while I was taking a plein air workshop a couple of years ago at Paynes Prairie. I have brightened the colors, and added the deer and the fog. The deer in the foreground was very challenging to paint at this angle. I think I captured it alright though. It was a very cold and windy morning!

Media: acrylic on hardboard
Size: 12 in X 9 in (30.5 cm X 22.9 cm)
Price: $600 USD

Fading Glory, wildlife, buck

I just added the buck to this older painting, and brightened up the vines. These palm trees no longer exist, the whole area where they used to live was leveled and plowed. A tree farm has been started there.

Summer Fawn, wildlife art, deer

"Summer Fawn"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
ready to frame

This painting is not available

This was a very challenging thing to do! I had a couple of photos of the doe and one of the fawn, and made up the back ground. It think it came together very nicely. I love the little guy walking under his mother! So typical of youngsters to cause chaos for parents. Smile.

Enjoy!

Along the Path, Wildlife art by Fawn

"Along the Path"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Ready to frame

I felt like moving on to new ideas. I love the blue series and may do a few more, but for now I want to work on brighter colors and create higher, lighter values in my compositions. So I used lots of white in the sky and contrasted it with the tall pines. I may touch up a couple of spots yet, but I really like the overall effect.
This is a path at the A and D ranch, only I made it wider and added a shadow near the bottom to frame it in. The doe is one that I took pictures of up in Gainesville last year.

Enjoy!

New Fawn, wildlife art

"New Fawn"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(ready to frame)

I painted this from a photo that a friend of mine (Paul Miller) took of this 3 or 4 hour old fawn in his yard in Libby, Montana! Of course it is my name sake, so I couldn't resist painting it. I free handed the drawing in pencil, and then changed the colors a little to enhance the flowers she was trying to hide in.

Spring Buck, Montana Art

"Spring Buck"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas

This is a little clearing I saw when I went for a walk a couple of weeks ago, in Libby, Montana. It was a crisp cold morning. The crab apple trees were blooming everywhere, along with wild flowers and dandelions. Too wonderful.
This is the third painting in my Montana series.

Luke's Tractor, completed mural

"Luke's Tractor"
Acrylic on a wall
Approximately 9 x 13 feet

Luke is in the tractor with an angel behind him.

Air plane in the sky, angel flying with it.

click on this one to see the doe and fawn in the middle ground.
Cows are in the distance, and hogs are in the mud.

Luke's dog is chasing a rabbit.

This mural just kept growing! I was so excited when the little boy in the tractor began to actually look like Luke! That took a few tries. Luke wanted the tractor stuck in the mud, but I liked it with the grass and didn't want to change it, so I added some mud on the tires.

I brightened up the colors in the sky and began adding some details to the back ground. The tractor still needs attention. The trees on the sides will go up and out, becoming much larger.
Detail of the crop duster, mud, cows, and distant trees.

Added clouds, roughed in the tractor, and added the beginning of the border trees.

First lay in of large areas of base colors. The walls are a denim blue color.
