CELEBRATING GOD'S CREATION THROUGH ORIGINAL WORKS.
Created this from some small studies and photos I took at a plein air paint-out at the Savanna's Recreational Park in Fort Pierce. The digital image really doesn't do it justice. Tons of detail. Thanks for stopping by!

Made most of this painting from memory. Actually I created it from a few different memories of my summers in Montana, and I also combined different horses. I put the Swede mountain range in the distance, but used the gorge from Libby Creek to set it all off. I made the stream bigger than I remember it too. It was always a muddy mess right here where the horses crossed it regularly. I added less mud and more water to clean it up some. Plus I love all the splash. I used some photos for the horses, but left a few of them out and changed their colors to symbolize my childhood dreams. This painting took months to complete, and then I went back and reworked it too.

I was caught up in the movement of the water mostly, and of course the wonderful feel of soft feathers and tiny details. This is one of the few oil paintings I still have available. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want (for anything); He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul. Psalms 23:1-2
This painting is one of my early works from when I used to paint in oils. Severe allergies to the solvents caused me to fall in love with the water clean up of acrylics. I use the paint in a similar way, only everything moves much faster now. Oils takes 2 weeks to dry, and acrylics dry in 10 or 15 minutes, so corrections and layers of colors are made quickly, and the final details are much easier to add now because I can rest my hand on the dry painting while I sharpen up areas that need more interest. What used to take months to complete takes a week or two if I stay with it!

I did around ten of these runny and drippy paintings. They are done with acrylics on canvas, at a standing easel, so all the paint runs down. It's a messy and fast application of layers of paint. Then I add the details over that once it is dry, so the contrast of warm and cool colors is played up against the contrasting thin against thick paint. It has to be sealed with a few coats of clear sealer because the integrity of the paint has been jeopardized.
Just made this older painting available in prints and cards. You can order what ever size you want.

Just touched up this little demo from last spring. I did a similar painting based on this one, but it is larger. I added a barn and a path to it and used slightly different colors. I will post it in a day or so.
This one is not available, but I will try to make it available in prints soon. I can do something similar for you also. I price custom paintings by size, change colors or mix and match ideas, and I can work from your images or mine.
This is a portrait of a filly I did for a friend of mine. Tootsie was a yearling for this pose. I added a better background and really enjoyed creating the details of fur and hair. Love her expressive eyes too.

Just finished this larger composition last week. Have worked on it for over a month. Loved creating all the colors. I especially enjoyed adding the pileus clouds. I have seen them before with rainbow colors looking almost like rings of Saturn, so I added them here for a fantasy effect. I also hid dolphins in the clouds. It is hard to make some of them out on this small screen, but in the prints (and in the original) they show up nicely.

Went back and made some corrections on this older painting. The sand had too much texture and too many foot prints, which was more realistic, but less pleasing to the eye. I simplified it and brought the weeds growing down into the path. I also worked on the clouds.
Created this painting alla prima, or all in one session. It was done from memory with a palette knife a few years ago. This one has an abstract feel to it. Wanted to capture the fleeting moments of the end of the day and the movement in the sky and water. It really poured out of me. I love it when it flows like that. ENJOY!
Did this a few years ago with my plein air group out in Fort Pierce. It was far more challenging than I imagined to capture the windy day and the changing colors of sky and water. I love the end result, however, and think I captured the effect I was after.

This is from the Adams Ranch. It is a huge cattle ranch, with hundreds of acres, natural springs, tons of wildlife, and of course horses and cattle. I created it from the photos I took while I was out plein air painting (out on location).
I did this knife painting a few years ago. I was interested in the way the sun came from the other side of the bank and of course the reflections. I like using a knife for unique color mixtures and textures.
From a demo I did a while ago. Just made this one available in cards and prints. Added lots of detail, and the angel for more interest. Really like the colors. Enjoy!

I have been working two part-time jobs: teaching art after school, and substitute teaching during the day. I am also taking 2 college courses, and I had to re-take my subject area exam for my state certification. (Found out I could still get it re-instated if I got caught up on every thing before the end of June.) I am half way there! Passed my big exam on art history, teaching strategies, and developmental stages of children in art education. It was a two and a half hour test! And it was a two hour drive to get to the testing site. Studied for a couple of weeks. Glad that is over with!
Robert laughs at me, says it is my own fault for letting things get so far behind. He is right, but I was honestly taking care of him through all of his brain surgeries. Oh well, it is good to have him back, and hear him laugh again.
At any rate, for the first time in many years, I have not been painting at all these days, but I will get back to it when my final exams are finished. I have six new paintings I can't wait to finish, but I have to stay focused on getting these courses done. Summer courses are twice the work in a short amount of time......
These lilies were blooming by the hundreds. Everywhere I looked there were wonderful splashes of color. Here I tried to contrast the warm and cool hues from the sun peeking out from time to time. Thoroughly enjoyed this palette of colors.
This was done alla prima (painted in one session). Lively impressionistic style. I like the distorted and abstract feeling it has. It is a take off of the first one I did called "Out Front" which is quite realistic. I wanted to capture the light dancing around the leaves this time. Very fun to paint the whole thing all at once, gives it the wet-in-wet look of an oil painting. Lots of thick brush strokes, nice texture.
Just finished this last week. It took a while to figure out, but I wanted to capture that daydream feeling you get when you stare at the light dancing on the water. I took a bunch of pictures while we were fishing on Lake Okeechobee. The sun went behind the clouds and peeked through here and there. It was cold and windy, but beautiful.
The painting continues on the sides, so framing is optional.

Got great pictures of this new colt running around the paddock his first time out. He had a hard time getting here, and his mother almost didn't make it. One of the foal's legs came through the rectum and the other got hung up backwards. The mare could not move around very well after being sown back together. They were kept in a stall until she could walk some.
When he took off bucking and running around, she would call him back each time. He would catch his breath and then take off again! It was way too cool to watch. He lives next door to me.
I was mostly interested in the backlighting and how it set him off. The dust kicking up was also something I wanted to try to capture. I exaggerated the background and moved things around to create more contrast because the sunset blurred so much of it out. I think it is one of best works!
