Endless Victory, palette knife angel

"Endless Victory"
About This Painting:
This is the 4th in a series of palette knife angels. I did the first angel in this style quite a while ago. I am enjoying working with bold color and thick textures. Makes for lovely abstract effects. I love the contrasting blues and oranges here, as well as the sword and the shield.
Ready to frame

Media: acrylic on hardboard
Size: 6 in X 6 in (15.2 cm X 15.2 cm)

Letting Go, palette knife abstract

"Letting Go"

About This Painting:

This palette knife painting started as a color study. It soon became a metaphor for inner struggles. I sensed the pull in my soul to hang onto things that people have done and said that hurt me, and I felt the release when I let go and forgave them. I am learning to do this right away, and not let it build over time.

This abstract painting is symbolic in many ways. The movement of the paint represents moving on, getting free from things that keep us from joy. The red and orange colors are for anger and heat, and the dark purple and black are for spiritual death that we find in unforgiveness. The white is the way of escape that Father God is always faithful to provide.

The cool colors at the bottom are the streams of refreshing we find in letting go.

By forgiving others, even when they do not ask for it, we can let go of offenses and not become resentful, which only hurts us, not them.

Be Mine Again, palette knife painting

"Be Mine Again"

This palette knife painting was created alla prima ( all at once). Purple is often used for the unknown, and of course red is for passion. It was intense and I wanted to let it pour out.
No greater love can anyone give than to give up their life for us. Jesus accepts us as we are, broken, wounded, unholy, and selfish. Yet he loves us, and pursues us, and never gives up on us. He wants us for himself, and to reunite us with our Creator. Faith can heal wounded hearts, and the love you find is not like anything a human can give.

Media: acrylic on hardboard
Size: 5 in X 7 in (12.7 cm X 17.8 cm)
Ready to frame.

Looking Up, palette knife painting

"Looking Up"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

Is there such a thing as a little miracle? Or are all miracles a big deal? So many little things, prayed about specifically, have become answered prayers, and some pretty big things too. Sometimes the small ones are so unnoticed to others, yet very extreme to you.
I took a walk the other day, close to sunset, and saw this little hill and the light pouring down. I got down on my knees and saw it from a whole new angle. WOW! The impact and glow was greatly intensified. I tried to capture it here. I used a palette knife for that feeling of time flying by.
Waiting for a surgery date, running many tests, getting put off for who knows how long, watching my husband fade, his mind is shutting down, he is giving up. Another doctor to go and see, then maybe a surgery can be scheduled . . . A small tumor in his ear, now pressing on his brain. So scary. Every day he gets worse.
Things are really looking up these days!
This new doctor looked over the tests, he called, he says we need to do something right away! What an answer to prayer! We go Monday and Tuesday for Gamma Knife surgery. One dose of intense radiation, kills the tumor.
Just like the sun rays, so intense, down on my knees praying for a miracle, and now I see, this is the miracle! This doctor could have put us off too, required a consult like the others, and time is so precious. He saw the need, he is taking us in in just a few days.
The tests are all coming back good, even the arteries in his neck, which had started showing clogging two years ago on one side, they came back clear. another one of those things that we prayed about, because he would have had to have them cleaned out first . . .
I just have to thank God, over and over.
But then all the little things, running into an old friend, exchanging a needed hug, kind words from email buddies, a song that meant the world to you played at just the right time. All around me I see God's hand, it is as if he is telling me he cares, he hears, and my prayers count too. My husband may have given up, but I don't have to. God has the final say!

The Sabbath, wildlife, great egret

"The Sabbath"
12 x 16 inches
Acrylic on canvas
ready to frame

I started out with too many colors, and nothing would come together. So I took a little breather and slowed down. Then I put on some worship music and thanked God for all the blessings in my life. Then the painting came together and it felt like Sunday worship service. It was as if God showed up and took my hand and showed me the way. I love it when He does that!

The Sabbath means a day of rest. Saturday or Sunday for most, but if you take your day off in the middle of week that is good too, as long as you give yourself a day of rest! God knew we needed that or we would get to run down.
Some people still get hung up on the old laws, but Jesus only gave us two commandments, To love the Father with all your being and to love each other!!!!

Escape, abstract, palette knife painting

"Escape"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
$950.00
ready to frame
Lots of thoughts going through my mind. Wanted to create the feeling of a struggle or battle.
Life seems to come crashing down on us so easily, and we feel like we are going to drown in the sorrow and negative forces. But God promises a way of escape, and always makes a way for us, especially when it seems like there is no way out.
The horse symbolizes us in the storms we face. He is determined to overcome the trials, and so he does!
The light on the other side is where God made a way for us to find rest from our struggles. Jesus made that way for us.
This painting was done alla prima, or all at once. It has thick swirls of paint, applied with a painting knife instead of a brush. This technique makes some interesting and cool effects.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man, God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (First Corinthians 10:13)

Quenching the Darts, palette knife painting

Quenching the Darts"
10 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
framing is optional, sides are painted
There is a lot of back ground and life stories that go with this, so I will try to keep it short.
Life has always thrown hardships my way: The death of my father as a young child, abuse from step fathers, moving every year, running away as a teenager, and foster homes for three years. I thought as an adult I could make life good, be a good person, and live a "normal life"-- whatever that is. But life continued to throw more hardships my way: a husband that lied and cheated and ran off with another woman after thirteen years of giving it my all (leaving me with two sons to raise), a second husband that abused me (whom I divorced after a year and a half) and now in the midst of finally living my dreams and being a professional artist -- I find my self in a world of doubt, strife and unbelief. My husband is very old school, and I have to fight for my rights on a regular basis. he has been ill lately, and taking his frustration out on me verbally. Sometimes I just want to give up altogether and run away. (Which helps me understand my mother and her frequent moves to a new state or even to an island in the pacific!)
Anyway, back to the painting, this started as a release of pent up anger at my husband, whose quick temper is hard for me to deal with sometimes. Next I saw an angel begin to form, but the wings began to look like a dove, the symbol of peace, and I knew it was me in agony on my knees, again. "How do I stay positive when all the world is so negative?" Sometimes I just can't stop the tears. So this painting poured out of my wounded soul. I have always found hope on my knees.

In the Bible it says to put on God's armor:
His peace, His helmet of salvation, His righteousness . . . so you can quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one, for our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of darkness in high places.
(Ephesians 6)

Rainy Day Angel, palette knife painting

"Rainy Day Angel"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
SOLD

#5 in the blue series. I used a composition of split compliments. Blue-green, blue-violet, orange, black and white. Orange is a true compliment to blue, so by using the hues on each side of blue I have split the compliment. I could have done it the other way: with Blue and Yellow-Orange or Red-Orange.
This is a palette knife painting, which gives it that almost abstract look, which I love for angels.
When we are down we can be sure God is still with us. His messengers are all around. We can find comfort even when times are tough.

Healing Waters, Waterfall, blues #4

"Healing Waters"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

Not Available

I used the analogous blues moving from green to blue-green to blue, and then added black and white for value changes. I added a touch of contrast with the complimentary color (orange). I mixed my own orange so you can see some yellow-orange and some red-orange also. I like getting variations by mixing my own colors.
I kept thinking about the song "Healing Waters" which refers to the living water of Jesus Christ. By his Spirit we have strength and healing for our soul.
Enjoy!

The Forth Day, abstract palette knife painting

"The Forth Day"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
$550.00  ready to frame

The Daily Painters group is kicking off a tribute to our beautiful earth this month, so I thought I would start with how it all started, and pay tribute to the Almighty Creator of our beautiful earth!

Whether it took an actual 24 hour day, or whether days were long time periods, who knows? But it is so much harder to believe that every thing happened by accident than by an intelligent design. Just look at how amazing life is!

I wanted to capture that feeling of land and sea separating and the movement of the wind that may have stirred at God's voice!

Enjoy it all, even in the hard times.

And God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear." And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
Genesis 1:9

Schoolroom Mural

"Schoolroom Mural"
Acrylic

The orbs of light are in different locations on each photo I took, sometimes large and sometimes small. I have seen this before, in photos I have taken at church, so it thrills me to think the angels have been with us while we worked on this mural!

This is the mural that my students have been working on the past month or two. (Rebekah is 13 and Rachel is 8.) Luke, who is 3 years old, painted the little yellow flower off to the right of the tree while I guided his hand. This mural is in the home school room/ play room. While I have been painting murals on their bedroom walls, the kids have been coming out for a couple of hours once or twice a week. I have enjoyed this project tremendously.
They came up with the ideas, and the colors! Some of the apples have family member's names on them-- creating a very unique family tree. I have been helping them when things get a little too far off, and to clean up any mistakes. Don't you think they have done a great job making this room so colorful?

Now I Lay Me Down

"Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep"
Acrylic on canvas
20 x 24 inches

Made this one up quite some time ago. It was in reference to a night time prayer I used to say with my boys. I didn't like the whole prayer, so I changed it to a kinder version that left out "if I should die before I wake . . ."
"Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, please keep us safe through the night, and bless us, dear Lord, with your morning light." Then we would ask God to bless each person we loved by name.
I do miss those sweet voices and tender prayers. So honest and true to listen to the heart of a child.
Enjoy!

Over Flow

"Over Flow"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on watercolor paper

The rivers and streams often spill over and it reminds me of God's abundance.
God fills our cup with blessing upon blessings, and this is for us to be encouraged and content. But He also fills us to overflowing, and this is for us to reach out to others!

Slow Passage, Morning Stream

"Slow Passage"
6 x 6 inches
Acrylic on canvas
NOT AVAILABLE

Just a fun little painting, thought I would try a limited palette this morning. It's alla prima. I started with different shades of blue. then added some yellow orange and tints of yellow, yielding many wonderful shades of green. Touches of purple went into some of the shadows. Finally, accents of red were used to set it all off! I love the feeling of atmosphere that the bluish hues convey.

I was thinking about how we slowly change, we slowly find the bright spots in life and see the wonders all around us. God just puts things in our path that encourages us to get beyond the negative thoughts and He leads us to His grace.

Nature has always been one of those things that brings me back to the positive thoughts and good memories in my life. Then I can be thankful again for the many good things in my life. Seems like we can easily let the hardships we have faced rob us of the joy that is ours for the taking.

Thanks for looking!

Celestial Shores

"Celestial Shores"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas panel
Not available

Worked on this one for a few days, just love the greenish hues in the water. This reminds me of the crystal clear water in Montana. I used a reference photo (from a magazine of Canada) to help my student, Cindy, paint something similar, only she added flowers in the foreground. I loved the way hers turned out, so I started playing with a similar idea, changed the mountains and added the rocks and the pine tree. It was fun to get back to my Daily Paintings.
As I painted this I kept thinking about how clean and pure it all looks. I often think heaven must have mountains and crystal clear water. Living in Florida makes me long for that pure water.

ENJOY!

Enduring Love

"Enduring Love"
12 x 16 inches
Acrylic on canvas
Prints Available

I worked on this painting all day. Wanted to make it realistic and yet surreal. Lots of symbolism:
~ The sunrise symbolizes the new covenant, no longer would animal sacrifice be required for sins and breaking laws. We are forgiven.
~The dove symbolizes the fulfilled promise of Jesus, to send us a comforter, the Holy Spirit, who gives us understanding and power to live a Christian life. We can't live it and succeed without him living in us and through us!
~ The crown of thorns is a reminder of the great suffering He endured for us so we can be blameless and find eternal life.
~ The flowers are called "lily of the valley" which has many different allegories. I was thinking about Christ being "the bright morning star and the lily of the valley." These lilies have healing qualities.

"Whoever is thirsty let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life."  Revelation 22:17

Rebekah's Beach

"Rebekah's Beach"
8x10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is a rough draft for a mural I will be doing in Rebekah's room. We will add a volleyball net, and a ball on the beach. We may add more angels than the one in front of the sun, or we may move that one to another location. There will be more and/or larger flowers too. The birds may end up closer, or more of them. Her room is a beautiful aqua color, so this will go very nicely.

Heaven's Harmony

"Heaven's Harmony"
6 x 6 inches
Acrylic on cradled hardboard
SOLD

My grandmother passed away this past week. I was thinking about heaven and wondering how happy she must be to see Grandpa again.

I started this painting as a simple abstract of warm analogous colors. Slowly the painting evolved into mountains and grass. Then I added the trees.

My grandmother loved the pine trees, and she loved the mountains. She saw beauty in everything, even things that I thought were so insignificant. She gave me a thirst for nature and it's grander. The deer would come down the hill behind her house and eat from her garden, and I would get up early so I could watch them with her. She wouldn't let me get to close to the patio window because she didn't want me to scare them away.

The Lion and The Lamb

"The Lion and the Lamb"
SOLD

This is an original oil painting I did years ago. I am posting it because I have prints of this painting available.

Jesus is said to be the Lion of Judah and the Sacrificial Lamb for our sin. This is also symbolic of the peace of heaven when the lion will lay down with the lamb and will not harm it.
