last look, fall leaves

"Last Look"
12 x 16 inches
Acrylic on canvas
ready to frame

I have worked on this painting for a few weeks, on and off. It is my last fall painting for a while. I really wanted to go north and visit my family on the East coast and see all the wonderful colors again. That didn't work out this year, so I thought I would paint it instead. This is from the same area as the last little one I did of this area. The format is larger this time, and it is from a different angle.
I may add some birds or animals, but so far I just don't think it needs it.
Enjoy!

Down the Road Again, palette knife painting

"Down the Road Again"
6 x 6 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is a fun little painting. I put a hawk hiding in the tree just right of the center. (Click on the image for zoom.) He has been hanging out around my house for about two weeks now. He has been on my fence, on my porch, on my shed, and by my car . . . today he was in a little tree singing (if you can call it that) for an hour! He looks young, has a white patch above one eye but not above the other. Very odd looking. He is large too, and has startled me several times. He doesn't fly away and is not afraid of me. I got some cool pictures of him today, so I hope to paint a close up of him as soon as I get some extended time. That has not been easy lately.

Peace To You, palette knife painting

"Peace to You"
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on hardboard
NOT AVAILABLE

Did this quick little palette knife painting a few days ago, just before we left. It is alla prima. I always enjoy the wet-in-wet effect of painting all in one session.
We got back from Gainesville early, as the radio-surgery procedure was canceled for my husband. He has severe adverse reactions to local anesthetics and some other complications. Now a new surgery is scheduled for a shunt in his head, which will relieve excess fluids from his brain.
A little scary. We have to wait two more weeks!
Thanks for stopping by.

Brunch 2, egrets and herons for Barbara

"Brunch 2"
5 x 7 inches
acrylic on hardboard

SOLD

I did 4 or 5 in this series. Barbara loved this one because it had both of her favorite birds in it. Our Daily painters group wanted to post some paintings in her memory, as she was an avid art collector. So today's paintings are posted for her.
She emailed me often, just to chat. It was always encouraging. She loved my paintings that had animals in them, and even some that were just scenic. I am sure many of the artists at dailypainters.com will miss her.

Down the Road, sunset, palms

"Down the Road"
6 x 6 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

Sold

Just down the road from my house there are groups of cypress and palm trees. They make very interesting shapes. The sun was starting to go down when I took some pictures of these trees. I was interested in the one leaning, so it was the starting point, but then I got caught up in the shadow shapes in the grass too.
There is a song that was on my mind as I painted this, and part of it says, " Somewhere down the road you'll find the answers to your questions, and His mighty arms waiting for you . . ."

We will be away for a few days, my husband is going to have radio-surgery this week. We are looking forward to a full recovery! I'll post something when we get back.

Looking Up, palette knife painting

"Looking Up"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

Is there such a thing as a little miracle? Or are all miracles a big deal? So many little things, prayed about specifically, have become answered prayers, and some pretty big things too. Sometimes the small ones are so unnoticed to others, yet very extreme to you.
I took a walk the other day, close to sunset, and saw this little hill and the light pouring down. I got down on my knees and saw it from a whole new angle. WOW! The impact and glow was greatly intensified. I tried to capture it here. I used a palette knife for that feeling of time flying by.
Waiting for a surgery date, running many tests, getting put off for who knows how long, watching my husband fade, his mind is shutting down, he is giving up. Another doctor to go and see, then maybe a surgery can be scheduled . . . A small tumor in his ear, now pressing on his brain. So scary. Every day he gets worse.
Things are really looking up these days!
This new doctor looked over the tests, he called, he says we need to do something right away! What an answer to prayer! We go Monday and Tuesday for Gamma Knife surgery. One dose of intense radiation, kills the tumor.
Just like the sun rays, so intense, down on my knees praying for a miracle, and now I see, this is the miracle! This doctor could have put us off too, required a consult like the others, and time is so precious. He saw the need, he is taking us in in just a few days.
The tests are all coming back good, even the arteries in his neck, which had started showing clogging two years ago on one side, they came back clear. another one of those things that we prayed about, because he would have had to have them cleaned out first . . .
I just have to thank God, over and over.
But then all the little things, running into an old friend, exchanging a needed hug, kind words from email buddies, a song that meant the world to you played at just the right time. All around me I see God's hand, it is as if he is telling me he cares, he hears, and my prayers count too. My husband may have given up, but I don't have to. God has the final say!

Hugs and Kisses, tulips

"Hugs and Kisses"
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on hardboard
NOT AVAILABLE

I have started a few paintings, but can't stay focused lately. So here is my first finished painting in quite a while. I wanted to do something cheerful and happy. I like the loose brush strokes and the bright colors.
I guess I have painted these flowers as a thank you to all of you who have been so supportive. I have been going through some hard times as my husband is very ill. Doctor appointments, tests, more tests, and getting a major surgery scheduled have consumed my life these days. So many people have written and encouraged me and so many have prayed with me too. It really does help.

Thanks for looking!

Life's Balance, Autumn trees

"Life's Balance"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas
$450.00

Odd how the beautiful colors of fall come trough the death of the leaves. The cycles of life are so balanced. Good things often come when we go through the hardest trials. Fall marks the end of summer, which is sad in some ways, yet so glorious too.
For me it was always the worst thing, to leave my grandmother's house and go back to school . . . Now it is a wonderful time, when the cool weather returns and outdoor activities begin! Living in Florida kind of puts a whole new light on things!

"All things work together for good to those that love God and are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

Sunbath, Tufted fishtail palm

"Sunbath"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

I see this little palm almost everyday, and in the evening sun it is just glowing with color. I played up the impressionistic look that the plant has anyway, and had fun using a small brush with almost a pointillism technique.

Enjoy!

Big Lake Sunset, palette knife painting

"Big Lake Sunset"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

I am getting fond of the palette knife, I love the texture it creates! This painting was done alla prima, or all at once, to get that thick overlapping quality. It is often the goal, but seldom happens that way.  Painting over dry paint doesn't give the same mixtures of color.
I got out for a walk at the lake a few days ago, and took some nice pictures of the sunset. The sun had just slipped down below the water, so the colors were still bright and inspiring.

Full Bloom, water lily

"Full Bloom"
6 x 6 inches
Acrylic on canvas

SOLD

Struggled at first, trying to get the feel of the petals, and trying to get the water to look like water. But then I finally relaxed and let my mind get into it, used the paint very thick and enjoyed pushing the colors around.
I love the strong colors, and the way the flower looks like it is moving with the water, that is what I wanted to begin with!

Enjoy!
