Ironwood, palette knife, study of an old tree

"Ironwood"
6 x 6 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
ready to frame
$275.00

This old ironwood tree would have been great for October, looks like it should be in a scary movie! I was interested in all the bends and twists in the limbs. I left off the moss this time, because I didn't want to lose the structure of the tree.

Southern Pines, palette knife painting

"Southern Pines"
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on hardboard
ready to frame
$325.00

Did this painting from memory. I was practicing blending with a palette knife by painting this sky that I saw the other evening. I didn't get the clouds near dramatic enough, so I added the slash pines for interest.

Dawn's Light, young palm tree

"Dawn's Light"
5 x 7 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Sold

I painted this alla prima, all in one session. Wet-in-wet, fast and loose . . . so fun to do. Very impressionistic. I saw this little palm tree glowing in the early morning sun, the shadows where intensified by the light. It was so beautiful to me. It reminds me of that feeling when you are out camping and it is hard to make things out with all the shadows, then the sun eats away at the darkness and even seems to bite through some of the objects in its path.
NEWS FLASH:
The first Daily Painters book is out! MY ART is featured in the middle.
I am so excited, I am in NEW BOOK THAT HAS JUST BEEN PUBLISHED!
Too Cool!!!!!!!

Ladies in Waiting 2, water lilies

"Ladies in Waiting 2"
5 x 7 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
SOLD
I really liked "Ladies in Waiting," from a few days ago, so I wanted to try it again in a palette knife painting. I pushed the dark and light values for stronger contrast, but mostly enjoyed painting the lily pads! I did this painting alla prima (all at once), which makes it have a nice thick texture and interesting mixtures of colors. The palette knife creates a challenge for me when applied wet over wet, but that forces the paint to interact.

Evening Watch, wildlife art, hawk

"Evening Watch"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
NOT AVAILABLE

This is a palette knife painting. May touch it up a little yet, but I like the overall effect.

This hawk has been hanging out on my porch, and flying all around my house. I hope he is eating up the snakes and rats we have out here!

He showed up about the time Robert started having all the trouble with the tumor in his ear. I felt like he was just reminding us that God is taking care of things.

Ladies in Waiting, water lilies

"Ladies in Waiting"
8 x 8 inches
Acrylic on canvas
sides are painted so framing is optional
$750.00

I started this one before we left last week, and have only had a chance to work on it twice since we got home. I was interested in all the contrasts: opposite movement of the lines, color contrasts, and the thin background paint contrasted with the thick top layers. Quite stimulating.

My husband's surgery was successful. You can click here to read about it.

Evening Glow, sunset, plumbagos

"Evening Glow"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Ready to frame
$675.00

Caught a glimpse of the the last warm rays of the sun, looked like they were setting these flowers ablaze in my front yard. It was a wonderful display of warm and cool colors!

I will be out of town for a few days, my husband will be having surgery for the shunt in his head . . . I am told it is like night and day. He should get all of his mobility back and his thought processes too . . . So I am thanking God ahead of time. It has been quite disheartening to watch my hero go down.

Moon Rise, Sunset

"Moon Rise"
5 x 7 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

Saw the full moon come up the other night as the sun was setting. The old cypress tree really set it off, looked like something out of a movie! I painted this from memory, as I didn't have my camera with me, but I still wanted to capture the moment.

Enjoy!

last look, fall leaves

"Last Look"
12 x 16 inches
Acrylic on canvas
ready to frame

I have worked on this painting for a few weeks, on and off. It is my last fall painting for a while. I really wanted to go north and visit my family on the East coast and see all the wonderful colors again. That didn't work out this year, so I thought I would paint it instead. This is from the same area as the last little one I did of this area. The format is larger this time, and it is from a different angle.
I may add some birds or animals, but so far I just don't think it needs it.
Enjoy!
