Butterfly Wishes, abstract palette knife painting

"Butterfly Wishes"
© Fawn McNeill 2009

About This Painting:
This is the first of a series of 4 palette knife butterflies I did a few years ago.

I wanted to make it look like it was moving quickly, so I used a painting knife for a more abstract effect.

The symbolism is in the colors: green is for growth and wealth, orange is for warmth and open arms, and yellow is for joy.

This little painting is loaded with thick paint and bold colors.

Enjoy!

Tootsie, horse portrait

"Tootsie"

About This Painting:
This filly belongs to one of my students. She and her sister have been painting with me for a few years now. Occasionally I get to go out to their ranch and take pictures of their horses, dogs, and cattle. The ride out (on the back of a four wheeler) was way more than I expected! A little too bumpy for this old gal! But it was worth it to see the huge bulls, and watch the horses chasing the cows.... They didn't even have cowboys on their backs! They would run towards them and circle around them. Way too funny. It was as if they wanted to aggravate them for no reason.

I am working on a portrait of one of the bulls. He was impressive!

I am also accepting orders for animal portraits. I can use your photos and change the background to fit certain color schemes.

Please feel free to email me at fmcneillbarr@gmail.com for more info. Price list is by size.

Secret Stream, palette knife painting

"Secret Stream"

About This Painting:
This one started as a path with pebbles and stones on the edges of it. Then it reminded me of one of many creeks I have crossed in Montana, so I added more rocks. I used a palette knife to get that sparkle effect of the water dancing down stream. Really fun to to create with a knife, because you never know what you will get in the end.

Enjoy!

Ready to frame.

Taste and See, animal portrait, equine art, horse, foal

"Taste and See"

This is one I did awhile ago, I have touched it up, and made a few corrections. I took pictures of the neighbor's foal in the early morning, then when I painted it, I exaggerated the lighting and the colors. I also used a loose approach and exaggerated the contrast.

Media: acrylic on canvas
Size: 10 in X 8 in (25.4 cm X 20.3 cm)

Abstract Oak Leaves, demo from O'keeffe

"Abstract Oak Leaves"

We looked at Georgia O'keeffe a week ago in my kid's summer art class. I had my students free-hand some interesting leaf shapes before we painted it in. Then we added some of our own colors too. Each student had a completely different painting by the time we got finished. I went back and finished mine out a few days later.

I also had them work on their own projects, zooming in on flowers and painting a similar style. We are having a great time!

Ready to frame.

Size: 9 in X 12 in (22.9 cm X 30.5 cm)
Price: $550.00 plus shipping.  Ready to frame
