About This Painting:
This great white egret kept landing in front of me while I was painting en plein aire (out on location). He was very large, and fat! I think he (or she) wanted to pose for me. I did include him in some of the plein air paintings I did those couple of days. Then I painted a few of him in paintings like this that are done from the photos I took.

Mountain Music, palette knife, lake landscape

"Mountain Music"

I did a unit on Monet with my kids summer art class. So this demo was originally done in short choppy brush strokes, very similar to Monet's style. I liked the colors and wanted to finish it, but I wanted the mountains bigger and more rugged so I could add snow to them. Used a painting knife and started with the sky, and re-worked the whole thing just for the fun of it. I thought I would make it very abstract, but as I worked it became more and more detailed. A little of my obsessive quality shining through I suppose!

Life's Balance, landscape, fall trees near a lake

About This Painting:
Stayed a few days at my sister's house in South Carolina a few years ago. Went out on a very cold morning, with frost everywhere, painting on location with watercolors. This lake was just down the road from her house. When I got back to Florida I used those little watercolor paintings to make this painting.
