The Rest, Florida Panther, Wildlife Art by Fawn

Just working from my own photos. I was trying to do a quick study, but took it a little farther. I like the overall feeling of this little painting.

Fall's Splendor 2, Autumn Leaves, Daily Painting by Fawn

"Fall's Splendor 2"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(ready to frame)

This is Lake Carolina near my sister's house. I did some plein air work in watercolors while I was visiting, and took lots of pictures. I did this painting today from some of those pictures. This is the second painting of this area that I have done recently. Good memories.

From Ruck's Road, Dairy Cows, Plein Air Painting by Fawn

"From Rucks Road"
16 x 20 inches
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This is one of my earlier plein air paintings. I did three paintings of the dairy cows on this country road. It wasn't so bad while I did this one very early. But then the cows came up near me . . . It was smelly, had lots of flies, and I was dripping in sweat by 8:00 am! I tried to shoo them off, but they hung out next to the fence.
Needless to say, I learned to set up in the shade, and I have not gone near the dairy to paint again! LOL.

Like a Rock, wildlife art by Fawn

"Like a Rock"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Sold

This great blue heron was standing so still that I did not even see him until the splash of the water made him show up! He startled me, because he was just two steps away. I started taking his picture from all angles, and he never moved, just a slight turn of the head to watch me. I had to laugh, It was as if he were saying, "I'm a rock, I'm a rock, I'm a rock!"

Splash Down, East Coast Beach

"Splash Down"

When I was at the beach, a couple of weeks ago, the foam and splash came up past my knees! What a wonderful morning.

The wind and salt air took me back to my teen years when I lived in the Pacific Islands. We spent every event on the beach, in Hawaii, and in Guam. I enjoyed reliving the memories in this painting.

Now I live inland- in the center of Florida. It is about an hour's drive from my house to the coast.  I haven't had such a great time there in a few months. The weather, the lighting, and the inspiration - well, it was just perfect.

Seagrapes, Alla Prima, Daily Painting

"Seagrapes"
9 x 12 inches
(ready to frame)
Acrylic on hardboard

This was a quick fun painting, it started as a study of a young seagrape bush, and turned into more of an abstract: with the focus on repeated circular shapes and bold colors. This plant was lit up with briliant light and wonderful deep shadows. As I painted it, it became more about the interesting shapes and patterns than the actual leaves and colors.

Rising Up, Atlantic Sunrise, Seagull,

"Rising Up"
20 x 24 inches
Acrylic on canvas
NOT AVAILABLE

This is another one from a couple of weeks ago when I went to the beach early and took a ton of pictures. I have rearranged the elements somewhat to emphasize the drama.
There is a lot of symbolism in this painting. Some things that were going through my mind include:
1.The rocks represent our trials and struggles.
2.The sunrise is for the hope we find in a new day.
3.The laughing gull is symbolic for trusting God to turn it all around. He will bring good out of the hardships we face if we trust Him.

Winning Time, Equestrian Art, Daily Painting by Fawn

"Winning Time"
11 x 14 inches
Acrylic on canvas
$875.00  Framed (see below)

Painted this from a photo I took at the rodeo here in Okeechobee. We have 2 big events each year, and some smaller ones also.

Started this painting at the beginning of this week, but I didn't get much time to work on it. I enjoyed playing with the abstract background, and contrasting that with the realistic horse and rider
. I also like the determined look on the girls face.

Rim Water, Sunrise Landscape, Old oak, Plein Air

"Rim Water"
(Lake Okeechobee)
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on canvas

This is another older painting that I did a few years ago, I have added the egrets and a few more highlights to it. My photography is better now too, much more true to the right colors, and contrast. Of course, each monitor varies some in color too. My camera tends to throw off a blue cast, so I am learning how to adjust for that and get a better image.

I am glad I painted it when I did, because this old tree was taken out and now a huge house is in it's place. Sad face here.

I have to go back to the courthouse today. Jury duty . . .

Separated, Impressionism, Young Cow, Daily Painting by Fawn

"Separated"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on canvas

SOLD

This is a painting I did last year in November. I have brightened it up quite a bit as I was never satisfied with it. Now it makes a stronger statement.
This little cow was separated from the others and when I came around the trees I was between her and the herd. She was as startled as I was and I thought she might charge at me! But she stomped, snorted and ran around until she got closer to the others.

Dawn's Magic, Sunrise Reflections Landscape by Fawn

"Dawn's Magic"
14 x 18 inches
Acrylic on canvas
Not Available

This was painted for a workshop lesson. Very moody.

Sorry to say that I have been called in for jury duty, so my posts may be sporadic over the next few days. I also have company coming this week, and my regular private lessons to teach! Some of my lessons have had to be cancelled already . . . I am trying to keep a positive attitude here, but I think I will need some extra prayers this week!

Fall Leaves, Watercolor, Daily Painting

" Fall Leaves"
7 x 11 inches
Watercolor on acid free paper

Did this one from my sister's kitchen table a couple of years ago. Looking out of the window at the frost and wind, I decided to stay inside this time. My hands had gotten numb the day before. It is alla prima (all in one sitting).

Inlet Park Too, Florida Plein Air, Alla Prima, Beach

"Inlet Park Too"

This is the second one I did yesterday. I may add birds to it, but I kind of like it as is. A large osprey showed up and caught a very large fish in front of me. He could not get out of the water and struggled for sometime near the shore. Then he let the fish go and flew off. Very exciting!

Inlet Park, Plein Air Florida, Alla Prima, Daily Painting

"Inlet Park"

Had a great morning -- worked on location out at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. There are two sides to the park, one is on the ocean, with great beaches, the other is at the inlet, where the Indian River comes into the ocean. I enjoyed painting with the Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast. Lori McNamara heads up our group.
I had fun with the colors and the interesting shapes in this little piece of the inlet. This inlet is where the inter-coastal waterway meets the ocean. It makes interesting currents in the water as the salt and fresh water mix.

Ready to frame.

Fall's Splendor, Realistic Impressionism, Eagles, Deer,

"Fall's Splendor"
12 x 16 inches
Acrylic on canvas

What a fun painting this one was! I have been wanting to go and see the colors change, but haven't had a chance yet. So I thought I would go there via canvas.

I have been working on this painting for the last three days. I used pictures that I took in South Carolina a couple of years ago. It was about 30 degrees, frost and ice were all around, but I went out and did some plein air work anyway. Good memories.

Ready to frame.

Maple Moth, Fall Leaf, Daily Painting

"Maple Moth"
8 x 10 inches
Watercolor

This moth matched the maple leaf so well that I had to exaggerate it some to get it to show up! The shadows were fun to paint, and the wood grain too. I love the effects of the watercolor paint on this rag paper - acid free, 25% rag.

Windy Palm, Atlantic Beach Sunrise, Daily Painting

"Windy Palm"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on watercolor paper
SOLD

This is one of those "not allowed" paintings. My professors at Florida Atlantic University said that beaches and palm trees were cheesy and overdone. We were not allowed to paint them! I love them. I don't care how common place they are in Florida, they are so fun to paint, and very popular!
I painted this from memory.

Morning Rain, Plein Air, White City Park, Daily Painting

"Morning Rain"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is the second painting I did Tuesday morning with my plein air group. It sprinkled some, but not enough to rain us out. The night before it really stormed and flooded much of the park. I worked on this one some when I got home. The rain had left streaks on the painting. I also touched up the Wood stork that was running along the shore behind the foreground tree.

River Oak, Plein Air, Daily Painting

"River Oak"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

Went out to White City Park again yesterday. This old moss covered oak was inviting -- hanging over the river. The east coast had a great deal more rain than we did inland. The water level was very high, Some of the benches and pavilions were partially underwater! Everything looked totally different from last week.

Light Chop, Ft. Pierce Inlet, Pelican, Realism, Impressionism

"Light Chop"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on gessoed board
Sold
This painting was created from a photo I took last year. I love the painterly strokes and lively movement that I added to the water. In the photo it was rather calm. The pelican gave me some trouble (re-did him a couple of times.) Now he seems to be right at home. I finished it up last night, but the power was out -- so I wanted to post it today. Click on it to see the thick brush work up close.

Purple Pond, Egrets, Realistic Imprssionism, Daily Painting

"Purple Pond"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on gessoed baord
SOLD

This little pond was surrounded by purple wildflowers. The path went around the left and up to a clearing just out of the painting. I like the cool colors in the foreground against the warm sunlight in the background, and as usual, I wanted to add a couple of the egrets that were hanging out.
