Butterfly Wishes

"Butterfly Wishes"

This is a palette knife painting, done alla prima (all in one session), which I have been working on lately: trying to finish them all at once and not come back to make changes. I wanted to capture that feeling of movement and that a butterfly can so quickly move out of sight, so I tried to make the colors look like they were jumping off of the butterfly. That was fun to do!

The color yellow is symbolic for joy and intelligence. Green is symbolic for growth and prosperity. Orange is often inviting and symbolizes warmth and energy.

I chose these colors to invite you to God's intelligent love. He does what is best for us, in His timing not ours. He brings joy and peace of mind even in financial uncertainty. Those that really trust in Christ (and not in man's religions) face trials just the same, but we know He will provide and see us through, we know He is in control, and often we are favored and prosper in times of need so we can help others. My wish and prayer for you is to find His wisdom for the hard decisions and trust Him that everything will turn out for the best in your life.

All things work together for the good of those
who love God
and are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28

Drapes, abstract

Wanted to take it down (from my last two paintings) to a minimal study of color and line. I distorted and exaggerated the flow of the red drapes, and also strengthened the bluish shadow.

Ready to frame.

Window Orchids, still life

"Window Orchids"

These orchids were sitting next to my window. I was interested in the way they faded into the wall and stood out against the red drape. I did this painting with lots of thick paint and loose brush strokes. Very fun to do.

Thanks for looking!

Ready to frame.

Fading Glory, wildlife, buck

"Fading Glory"

I just added the buck to this older painting, and brightened up the vines. These palm trees no longer exist, the whole area where they used to live was leveled and plowed. A tree farm has been started there.
Thanks for looking!
Ready to frame.

Dawn's Hope, Florida Sunrise

"Dawn's Hope"

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!

I really sensed a feeling of joy and anticipation as the sun came up and the fog lifted. This painting is symbolic for the way we have a new clean start anytime we chose to trust in Christ. I am not talking about religion, just about talking to God and asking him to forgive us. He is more interested in hearing our thoughts and leading us in a better direction than He is watching us go through the motions of tradition. He speaks to us through nature, through people, and through His word. We just have a hard time tuning in!

Morning's Chatter, fox squirrel

"Morning's Chatter"

This fox squirrel was in a tree near me while I was out early in the morning doing some photography of a ranch. He was not happy with me, and scolded me very loudly as he ran up and down the tree. I just got a couple of pictures of this very large squirrel, and then he ran off.

This is a very detailed painting that I did a few years ago. I painted every leaf and every hair! Found it in storage today, Enjoy!

Ready to frame.

Just Around the Corner, Florida landscape

"Just Around the Corner"

Lori McNamara inspired me for this one. She does wonderful palette knife paintings! I started with the palette knife, but then gave in and finished it up with a small brush.
I love paths, they shout "come and see what is hiding back here . . ." When I was a teenager I used to love to ride my horse on a new trail just to find a new place to sit and take nature in.

"Winter Blooms"

These bougainvillaeas are blooming in my front yard. So striking against all the brown grass and leafless trees. It was windy and I didn't stay out long, but I really enjoyed it.
This is my first chance to do any plein air painting in months. After my husband got so sick I only stole an hour here and there while he was sleeping. So good to have him back! He is about 80 % back to his old self. I should say his new self. He is so grateful and opens up more often now.

Violets 3, abstract flower

"Violets 3"
8 x 8 inches
Acrylic on canvas
sides are painted, framing is optional
$650.00

I loved the blue reflected light hitting the shadow side of the leaves, so this was exaggerated and then contrasted with the bright yellow and lime green from the sunlit side! I wanted to repeat the colors of the flower, so I used it in the back ground for harmony. This painting was fun to create and just flowed from the brush!

Violets 2, sunlit flowers

"Violets 2"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas

NOT AVAILABLE

Here is new version of the same violets. The sun was coming through the leaves and making some very cool colors! I was very interested in the warm and cool contrasts, and the petals of the violets that seemed to repeat the the patterns in the leaves.
I worked on this painting 2 -3 hours at a time, 2 sittings, yesterday and today. It has thick paint and an impressionistic style, which really emphasised the sun's glow.

Enjoy!

Let's Talk About This . . .

"Let's Talk About This . . ."
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas
NOT FOR SALE

This was way out of my comfort zone! My Daily Painters group is posting self portraits for tomorrows page. So I wanted to paint my portrait to include my husband, Robert Barr. I may work on it some more, but it is close. I painted yellow in the background for the joy he has brought to my life, and the red is for his genuine passion. I added some blue to symbolize my cold shoulder that I often turned his way when we first got married. (We have been married for almost 9 years now.)

His favorite saying is "Let's talk about it . . ." of course talking is not on his mind, and of course, all I want to do is talk about the issues at hand (and not in the bedroom!!!) We have always been able to laugh about it. He usually wins me over. He still has a great sense of intelligent humor, even with all the illness we have had to deal with these past few months.

His beautiful curly hair is all shaved off now (He had a shunt put in his head just before Thanksgiving.) He has lost 13 lbs or more in the last three weeks from having migraines. But today he didn't have the severe headaches he's been having, and was able to eat more than a few bites. We go back to Shands hospital this week to have more tests done and discuss the small tumor that is in his inner ear.

Please keep us in your prayers!

Around the Bend, Florida Sunset

"Around the Bend"

I started this painting of some palms down the road from my house, but it reminded me a lot of the Peace River in Arcadia. So I added the water and played up the weeds.

Iris Abstract, O'keeffe flower

"Iris Abstract"

8.5 x 11.75 inches
watercolor on acid free paper
Ready to frame

$475.00

I have always been inspired by Georgia O'keeffe's flowers. I thought this one would look great in watercolors. I changed the colors somewhat and let the composition flow the way it wanted as I painted it in without drawing it first. I used to have my students at the high school do this type of art history study. Of course they had to do a report too!

Enjoy!
