Just Around the Corner, knife painting, Florida landscape

"Just Around the Corner"

Lori McNamara inspired me for this one. She does wonderful palette knife paintings! I started with the palette knife, but then gave in and finished it up with a small brush.
I love paths, they shout "come and see what is hiding back here . . ." When I was a teenager I used to love to ride my horse on a new trail just to find a new place to sit and take nature in.

Around the Bend, Florida Sunset

"Around the Bend"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas
Not Available

I started this painting of some palms down the road from my house, but it reminded me a lot of the Peace River in Arcadia. So I added the water and played up the weeds.

Dawn's Light, young palm tree

"Dawn's Light"
5 x 7 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Sold

I painted this alla prima, all in one session. Wet-in-wet, fast and loose . . . so fun to do. Very impressionistic. I saw this little palm tree glowing in the early morning sun, the shadows where intensified by the light. It was so beautiful to me. It reminds me of that feeling when you are out camping and it is hard to make things out with all the shadows, then the sun eats away at the darkness and even seems to bite through some of the objects in its path.
NEWS FLASH:
The first Daily Painters book is out! MY ART is featured in the middle.

Evening Watch, wildlife art, hawk

"Evening Watch"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
NOT AVAILABLE

This is a palette knife painting. May touch it up a little yet, but I like the overall effect.

This hawk has been hanging out on my porch, and flying all around my house. I hope he is eating up the snakes and rats we have out here!

He showed up about the time Robert started having all the trouble with the tumor in his ear. I felt like he was just reminding us that God is taking care of things.

Down the Road, sunset, palms

"Down the Road"
6 x 6 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

Sold

Just down the road from my house there are groups of cypress and palm trees. They make very interesting shapes. The sun was starting to go down when I took some pictures of these trees. I was interested in the one leaning, so it was the starting point, but then I got caught up in the shadow shapes in the grass too.
There is a song that was on my mind as I painted this, and part of it says, " Somewhere down the road you'll find the answers to your questions, and His mighty arms waiting for you . . ."

We will be away for a few days, my husband is going to have radio-surgery this week. We are looking forward to a full recovery! I'll post something when we get back.

Sunbath, Tufted fishtail palm

"Sunbath"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

I see this little palm almost everyday, and in the evening sun it is just glowing with color. I played up the impressionistic look that the plant has anyway, and had fun using a small brush with almost a pointillism technique.

Enjoy!

Still Standing, study of an old tree

"Still Standing"
9 x 12 inches
acrylic on hardboard
ready to frame

I like all the intricate growth patterns at the base of this old tree. Looks like a strangler lost the battle and merged with it. It had been raining most of the day, and all the shadows were strong from the soggy bark.

Enjoy!

Sail Away, palette knife painting

"Sail Away"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is just a simple composition. I am practicing my palette knife paintings. Getting more comfortable with it. Still need a brush for little details. It is exciting to see how the colors all work together, especially when I put a thin layer of one color under the thick layers. It makes nice value changes. I sprayed the painting with a mist of water this time, and it helped me to be able to slow down some.

Thanks for looking!

Now I Lay Me Down

"Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep"
Acrylic on canvas
20 x 24 inches

Made this one up quite some time ago. It was in reference to a night time prayer I used to say with my boys. I didn't like the whole prayer, so I changed it to a kinder version that left out "if I should die before I wake . . ."
"Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, please keep us safe through the night, and bless us, dear Lord, with your morning light." Then we would ask God to bless each person we loved by name.
I do miss those sweet voices and tender prayers. So honest and true to listen to the heart of a child.
Enjoy!

(I will be out of town for a few days, so I won't be posting again until next week.)

Rain Rain Go Away, Plein Air

"Rain Rain Go Away"
12 x 24 inches
Acrylic on canvas
ready to frame

This is another older painting that I did on location a few years ago, before I started posting on line. I was really into thin layers of paint, then sealing them with a varnish. When all the craze came out with the watercolor canvases I moved on to something else.
It actually started raining off and on. I loved the effect it created in the background. As it dried I added the thicker layers of foliage over the top.

A and D Ranch, 2, Plein Air

"A and D Ranch, 2"
6 x 8 inches
Acrylic on canvas panel

This painting will be available in a few weeks. This is another sample painting for a larger canvas later.
I enjoyed going out and taking in all the fresh air in the morning sun. It turned cold that morning with a cold wind, 50 degrees or so. For us that is chilly!

Rebekah's Beach, Mural completed

Rebeka's Beach, Mural,
acrylic on a wall

(I blocked the glare from the window for a better photo, makes the sand look darker.)

An angel looks out from behind a cloud. Blends in nicely.

Two angels here. (Click the image to enlarge it.)

The volleyball and the net are in Gator colors (University of Florida).

Finished up Rebekah's Beach today. Approx 13 x 8 feet. I love the angel sitting on the cloud to the right of the sun. There are seagulls and seashells too. Wonderful bold colors! I think Rebekah will really like it. She plays volleyball and her team went to state competition! Way To Go, Rebekah!

Dawn's Warning, Daily Painting

"Dawn's Warning"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(ready to frame)

Plein air painting (done on location). I exaggerated the sky colors somewhat. The dead grasses were all lit up in the morning sun, it was beautiful.

Rebekah's Beach

"Rebekah's Beach"
8x10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is a rough draft for a mural I will be doing in Rebekah's room. We will add a volleyball net, and a ball on the beach. We may add more angels than the one in front of the sun, or we may move that one to another location. There will be more and/or larger flowers too. The birds may end up closer, or more of them. Her room is a beautiful aqua color, so this will go very nicely.

This painting is SOLD

J & S, plein air painting

"J and S"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(ready to frame)

Got to go out to J & S Fish Camp in the evening yesterday. The rim canal is off to the right and Lake Okeechobee is over the levee. I saw this little muddy path with the palms and thought how perfect of a composition that it would make! I used a simple palette with very few colors to give it more harmony.

I painted this in April and this week I have subdued the foreground to set off the middle distance. I really like the broken brush strokes and the colors in the water.

Indian River Palm, Plein air painting by Fawn

"Indian River palm"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(ready to frame)
$225.00

This is the second one from yesterday in Jensen Beach. I was trying to use a softer palette to set off the palm tree, I like the results. it was windy and choppy, so the water was fun to paint.

Caribbean Palms, Palm trees, Plein air

"Caribbean Palms"

8 x 10 inches

Acrylic on hardboard
SOLD

No, I didn't go to the Caribbean Islands to paint this one (although that is not a bad idea). I went to Jensen Beach this morning and painted at a resort called Caribbean Shores. It was very windy and cool, and these palms were so beautiful I had to try my hand at them!
