War Paint, orchid, still life by Fawn

"War Paint"
5 x 7 inches
(ready to frame)
Acrylic on hardboard
$400.00
My husband grows orchids. He used to have 15 or so healthy plants, but after hurricanes and moving to a new place, he has about three left. This war paint is in full bloom right now. I was so taken by it's varying shades of purples and reds (contrasting with all that those lovely greens) that I just had to paint it. hopefully I will do a few more before it stops blooming. I love the graceful movement of these flowers.

Angel, Spiritual art by Fawn

"Angel"
5 x 7 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Not Available

This is based on a dream that I had. The wings of the angels were not visible, just blurs of light. The rays of light came out in all directions. I also had a vision once where the angels were moving about quickly, and all you could see was a flash of light, like a moving orb. In that vision the angels where waiting and listening to The Father, whom I could not see. They would each take off as they were given a command.
This painting was done with a palette knife, to give it that abstract or expressionistic quality. It only symbolizes an angel, as often times they appear as people and we never even know they were sent from God to help us.

The Snack Bar, egret, heron, wildlife art by Fawn

"The Snack Bar"
5 x 7 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
SOLD

Some people call the great egret a 'great white egret,' and some people call the blue heron a 'great blue heron.' Either way they are very large birds and very common around here. They are close to four feet tall, and have a massive wing span. I take pictures of them often and love to include them in my paintings.
This painting was done alla prima, which means I did it all at once. I love the using thick paint with fast applications. That gives it that wet in wet look, which in acrylics is harder to achieve than in oils.

The Promise, equine art by Fawn

"The Promise"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is Misty, a filly that I bought a while ago. I have painted her many times, even before I met her I had painted her in a couple of pictures. She is the mare in "The Guardian" from yesterdays post. Misty is an appaloosa-quarter horse. I no longer have horses. We have built a new house with an art studio, but now we have no land . . . Misty lives with her trainer now.

I saw a rainbow in the fog on my way to a horse show yesterday, and thought I would add it here. It was so odd and brilliant shinning in the mist. It was much larger than this one. It followed me all the way to town. It reminded me of God's faithfulness, He always keeps his word.

The Guardian, Spiritual art by Fawn

"The Guardian"
30 x 40 inches
acrylic on canvas
NOT AVAILABLE

This was an assignment at the university a few years ago. We were challenged to create a symbolic self portrait with a still life set up.

The broken fawn is glued back together. It represents my broken life of abuse and foster homes, as well as the abandonment from my first husband of 13 years. God just keeps putting me back together!

The horse statue is colored the color of a horse I owned at the time, and represents the love I have for animals.

The hat is my wedding hat, and it is for the joy and love that Robert Barr has brought into my life.

The shells and rocks are from places I have lived, California, Minnesota, Montana, Hawaii, Guam, Florida . . . I moved every year as a kid, sometimes changed schools two or three times a year. So I would pick up something small that I could keep from many of those places.

The wild flowers are because my boys, Zac and Kyle, used to pick weeds and wild flowers out of the back yard, which always needed mowing. They always wanted me to put them in a vase, which I did, even if they didn't smell so great. Those are really good memories.

The rose is a promise of the Almighty's faithfulness to cleanse us from our wrongs and to cleanse us of the wrongs that were done to us. Somehow as a child I thought that the evil done to me made me evil. But God has shown me that we are like roses that do not wither or die. Our spirits are eternal. When we trust in Christ our lives become unique in him. Our Creator pursues us with his love. Only He makes us righteous in our spirit so we can be with him.

The angel means busines! He is for my belief that God must give us each many mighty warrior angels to help us through this sin cursed world! I believe they fight for us regularly. Because of Christ we are able to keep forgiving, loving and trying. We no longer have any excuse to give up. (By the way, my younger son, Kyle, draws warrior angels and he let me use one of his drawings for this angel. I added the serious face, and Kyle posed for the holding of the sword.)

I love this painting. I love the colors, the details, and the powerful meaning it has for me personally.

Full Spectrum, Abstract, Daily painting by Fawn

"Full Spectrum"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
$500.00

This is another split primary palette. (See the side bar for a link to color tips.) I used a hardboard this time and placed my colors all around. Then as I mixed colors on it for my paintings it started to remind me of an abstract painting. I see angels and demons fighting in this one, but it could be flowers or waterfalls too. That is the cool thing about abstracts, you can just let your mind run with it.

Small Wonders, Foal, Equine art by Fawn

"Small Wonders"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(Ready to frame)
$775.00

This little foal is from Paddock Farms miniature horses. I am doing a show there this month, and thought I would paint a few of their amazing horses! Horses have to be my favorite subject to paint. When I was a teenager I was horse crazy, and all I would draw was horses!

Enjoy . . .

Spirit Horses, Uncle Sean, Mountain Man, by Fawn McNeill

"Spirit Horses"
(Uncle Sean)
18 x 24 inches
Acrylic on canvas
$1,200.00

This is one I just made up for fun. I have been working on it for three days. It is completely from memory. My Uncle is a true mountain man. He used to live alone up in a cabin that he had to hike to. No roads in or out. I have placed him very small in the bottom right of the painting to emphasize the vastness of the mountains and trees. By the way, he lives in Northern Idaho now and is married. Smile.
In the sky I found horse shapes appearing, so you know me, I had to go with it! The clouds are now alive with horses! That was just because when I lived in the mountains I got to ride horses with my friends. We rode everywhere bareback. All of my friends had horses, so we would get large groups and go on all day rides up to the lookout tower in the Swede range or up on Treasure Mountain (Libby, Montana). What fun that was!

Fond Memories, equine art by Fawn

"Fond Memories"
18 x 24 inches
Acrylic on canvas
$1,500.00

I created the background from memories of Libby Montana, where I stayed with my Grandmother several times. The horses are from pictures I took of horses I have known. I changed some of their colors and edited out a few of them to make the flow smoother. I have worked on this painting off and on for almost five years! I made it too abstract and lost the effect I was after, so now I have gone back to more of my style. I finished it yesterday. It satisfies me now.
