Water Lilies

"Water Lilies"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas

I was very interested in the reflections at first. Then I had to decide what was the focal point? So I played down the reflections and emphasized the lily pads and the flowers. Finally, after the second try, I had a good composition. Now the reflection of the tree sets off the water lilies, instead of distracting from them!
Thanks for looking!

I painted this from the same set of photos that the last painting was created from (see below).

While I was out painting en Plein air last Thursday, I saw these wood storks glowing in the morning sun. I was taken by the bluish light of their white feathers against the warm soft grass behind them.

Dawn's Warning, Daily Painting

"Dawn's Warning"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(ready to frame)

Plein air painting (done on location). I exaggerated the sky colors somewhat. The dead grasses were all lit up in the morning sun, it was beautiful.

Mural, completed

The right side of the mural is finished. Here are some views of it. I blocked off the window and got some better photos this time.

The top photo is the left side. Added some more flowers and brightened up the lighting. Scroll down to see more.

I have run into problems with the priming of the next two murals. The paint is not adhering to the wall. I have to sand and re-prime the walls--very disheartening! I had already started major fill-ins!

Thanks for looking!

Painted this from my photos about a year ago. I saw this bird up at Arbuckle Creek. She had a clutch of babies peeking out from the bushes, too cute.

Enduring Love

"Enduring Love"
12 x 16 inches
Acrylic on canvas
Prints Available

I worked on this painting all day. Wanted to make it realistic and yet surreal. Lots of symbolism:
~ The sunrise symbolizes the new covenant, no longer would animal sacrifice be required for sins and breaking laws. We are forgiven.
~The dove symbolizes the fulfilled promise of Jesus, to send us a comforter, the Holy Spirit, who gives us understanding and power to live a Christian life. We can't live it and succeed without him living in us and through us!
~ The crown of thorns is a reminder of the great suffering He endured for us so we can be blameless and find eternal life.
~ The flowers are called "lily of the valley" which has many different allegories. I was thinking about Christ being "the bright morning star and the lily of the valley." These lilies have healing qualities.

"Whoever is thirsty let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life."  Revelation 22:17

Rebekah's Beach

"Rebekah's Beach"
8x10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is a rough draft for a mural I will be doing in Rebekah's room. We will add a volleyball net, and a ball on the beach. We may add more angels than the one in front of the sun, or we may move that one to another location. There will be more and/or larger flowers too. The birds may end up closer, or more of them. Her room is a beautiful aqua color, so this will go very nicely.

Mural, right side in progress

Got a lot done, I should finish it this week. I have about 44 hours in it now. I will try to get better pictures all the way around when it is finished. between the glare of the windows and the shine of the paint, I am not doing so hot on photos. The house is still under construction which makes it great for not messing up floors or anything, but there is no electricity so I can't block off the windows to take the pictures! After the house is finished I will come back and get some photos for my portfolio.
I just love the way it it is coming along.
