Natural High, Rocky Mountains

"Natural High"
About This Painting:
It is always an exhilarating thing to hike in the Rocky Mountains. I started this as a painting lesson, then went back and recreated it by adding details and sunshine. I did this from my memories of the Rockies in Montana. Not only do I get a natural high when out in such spectacular places, I also get them when I paint things that bring back such grand memories.
Enjoy!

Tall Glass of Water

" Tall Glass of Water"

About This Painting:
I'm not sure about the water, it may need a little more work. I like the sunlight on the horse's shoulder and his neck. I took pictures of this horse in the grass, and made up the water and the reflection, so it has been taking me a few days to get it right.

My Daily Painters group is posting reflections today so that they come up tomorrow on the same day. We try to do a theme on the first Wednesday of each month.

This painting makes me think about Psalms 23:

He makes me lie down in green pastures and He leads me beside the still waters . . .
Thanks for looking!

Painting continues on the sides, so framing is optional.

Cabbage Palm Study, reworked

"Cabbage Palm Study"

About This Painting:
I went back and strengthened this little plein air painting so the tree trunk would show better. It just seemed to get lost in the background, so I added the reflected light on the left of the trunk and darkened the shadows in the background.

Ready to frame.

Media: acrylic on canvas panel
Size: 6 in X 8 in (15.2 cm X 20.3 cm)

Paradise, palms at sunset

"Paradise"
About This Painting:
Here is another art lesson I did last week, I have gone back and added more details and a second palm. I like the shades of purple and pink.
This type of painting is so popular, and so fun to paint. We start with an idea from a "how to paint" book, and then we add our own colors and move things around a bit. I take my students through the painting one step at a time, and still each painting turns out different and unique!
Ready to frame.

Lover's Lane, Beach Sunset

"Lover's Lane"

About This Painting:
This started as a demo, and I have gone back and added a lot of waves and sea grapes. The couple was fun to add too. The palms are from a plein air painting I did last year, only I put them by the ocean instead of the Indian River.

I wanted to get this done before Valentines, but it never worked out . . . Oh well! I like the very impressionistic feel it has, I tried not get too carried away with the detail, and keep it loose, but I tend to keep adding and fixing, so it ended up with birds, and people, and lots of wind and splash!

Ready to frame.

SeaGrapes, Plein air study

150
"SeaGrapes, Study"

About This Painting:
Went to Fort Pierce today and painted with Lori McNamara's plein air group. This is the second of two I did. It was alla prima, fast, loose and all palette knife. Too much fun. I like working on location: fresh air cool breeze, and warm sun. It was a perfect day.

Be Mine, heart shaped diamond

"Be Mine"

About This Painting:
I actually painted this gem before I painted "Be Mine Again" a few days ago. But I didn't want to post this one until today, so it will show up on my DP page tomorrow, for Valentines.

This was a fun and special painting because it is symbolic of my engagement ring. I exaggerated the colors and set it all off on red.

Robert asked me to marry him on Valentine's Day nine years ago. We were walking at sunset down at the lake, as we so often did. He told me that of all the women he had known I was the only one he wanted to spend his whole life with. He had already picked out two or three rings, and we went a few days later to choose which one I wanted. The large heart shaped diamond was his first choice, so of course it was my choice too! It is a wonderful reminder of that special day.
Happy Valentine's Day!

Early Morning, misty stream

"Early Morning"

I wanted to capture the first bit of light coming through the mist. I love the morning fog coming off of the water, that is always a challenge to create. I also like the way the tree stands out. I added the flowers to brighten up the overall mood.
Enjoy!

Be Mine Again, palette knife painting

"Be Mine Again"

This palette knife painting was created alla prima ( all at once). Purple is often used for the unknown, and of course red is for passion. It was intense and I wanted to let it pour out.
No greater love can anyone give than to give up their life for us. Jesus accepts us as we are, broken, wounded, unholy, and selfish. Yet he loves us, and pursues us, and never gives up on us. He wants us for himself, and to reunite us with our Creator. Faith can heal wounded hearts, and the love you find is not like anything a human can give.

Butterfly Wishes Too

"Butterfly Wishes Too"

Wishes for love and prosperity are symbolized by the red and green in this palette knife painting. I like the way the butterfly looks like it is part of the flower.

I started with a fairly thin lay-in, with large brush strokes, but it just didn't have the same effect. So I let it dry and went over the top with thick layers of paint on the palette knife. That is when it came alive! The colors began to mix together on the painting as I added more paint and pulled the colors across each other. I enjoy this wet-in-wet application, it gets messy, but it is fun to do. Many people are amazed that I use acrylics for this, but when you use the paint thickly, it takes longer to dry and is not a problem at all.

Grounded, equine art

"Grounded"

I took some photos of this mare and foal a couple of years ago. I have wanted to paint them ever since. So I finally got to it! I was attracted to the morning's back-lighting, which added tremendously to the sense of wonder that the foal seemed to have.
