Broken Bricks Mural, ocean scene

I have been wanting to paint stones or bricks (or something) behind the stove for a few years now.  Once I got started it was really fun.  I decided to break the bricks open so I could look at more than just bricks on the wall while cooking...

My husband wanted birds, so I added the water and some birds!

Hard to see the angels, but there are two angels in the clouds.  That was my favorite part.

I made the wall look like broken plaster around the bricks to tie it all together.  Just sealed it with two coats of clear sealer.

Beach Sunset, mural

Got most of this mural done in my guest bathroom last fall.  Just added some more finishing touches and decided it is finally complete.   I love the way you can see the palm in the mirror in this shot.

(We've been making repairs and painting walls at my house.  I have discovered muscles in places I didn't know I could have muscles! Not fun at all.  So I had to get some murals going in order to help my feelings!  I have a new one in the kitchen too.  I'll post it soon. Want to make sure I'm finished first.)

The colors are much more intense than the images show.  It was fun!

Three is Not a Crowd, gumbo limbo trees, plein air painting

"Three's not a Crowd"
(Gumbo limbo trees)
© Fawn McNeill May 2018

I could not resist these challenging odd shapes and colors.  I struggled at first with the layout and also with the transitions in the trunks and roots of the trees.    Gumbo limbo trees have bright red patches of thin bark and some light gray areas too. They look like fake rubber trees.

Such a lovely time: a nice, cool, breezy day.  The trees looked like they were dancing together.

This is an original Plein Air (created on location) from Old Fort Park in Fort Pierce, Florida. I added extra details when I got home.

At Riverside, Egret, Palm, Indian River, Florida

"At Riverside"
(Stuart, Florida)
© 2018
Here is an older one I just love! Used some pictures I took during a paint-out at Riverside Park.  I walked all over the park for an hour in the morning, soaking in all the inspiring views before doing some sketches.

This egret was wading along the shore, and I got some pretty good photos of him catching fish.  I liked this one where he jumped up a few times.

This palm tree was one of two jetting out over the water.  The other palm was bent and crooked, but it was hard to get a good photo.

Lifting Fog, cardinal, turkey, deer, Florida art

 "Lifting Fog"

I worked on this painting off and on for a couple of years.  Just finished it in January, 2019, when I added the cardinal.  He was the whole point to begin with, so I was glad to finally put him in there!

The cardinal kept posing for me while I was scouting the area for a good place to set up my easel.  I did several small plein air (on location) studies farther down this muddy road.  I actually got my shoes wet taking photos of this old fence!

Lavender Flight, mixed media, knife painting

"Lavender Flight"

This is fun little abstract painting is part of my newest series of mixed media art.  I added some charms and beads for that extra sparkle. For some reason these mixed media paintings tickle me. I love the way the beads show up at different angles of viewing which makes it grab your attention.  (Click on the image for a larger view.)

Gentle Rain, hibiscus, mixed media, knife painting

"Gentle Rain"

This is a larger painting in my new mixed media series.  I built the texture up with thick heavy gesso this time, instead of modeling paste.  Also added some aquarium stones and gems.  I gave the drips of water a little extra shine too.

Very exciting! The colors and the sparkle are hard to see in this photo, but when the light hits the painting at different angles, they jump out at you!

Original Art,
20 x 20 x 1 3/4  inches
Mixed Media on Gallery Wrap Canvas
