Butterfly Wishes Too

"Butterfly Wishes Too"

Wishes for love and prosperity are symbolized by the red and green in this palette knife painting. I like the way the butterfly looks like it is part of the flower.

I started with a fairly thin lay-in, with large brush strokes, but it just didn't have the same effect. So I let it dry and went over the top with thick layers of paint on the palette knife. That is when it came alive! The colors began to mix together on the painting as I added more paint and pulled the colors across each other. I enjoy this wet-in-wet application, it gets messy, but it is fun to do. Many people are amazed that I use acrylics for this, but when you use the paint thickly, it takes longer to dry and is not a problem at all.

Grounded, equine art

"Grounded"

I took some photos of this mare and foal a couple of years ago. I have wanted to paint them ever since. So I finally got to it! I was attracted to the morning's back-lighting, which added tremendously to the sense of wonder that the foal seemed to have.

Red Rocks, sunset, beach

"Red Rocks"

Made this up for fun. I started with a thin strip of purple in the middle and worked out in both directions with rainbow colors. Then added the clouds, rocks and waves. It was painted alla prima.

Drapes, abstract

"Drapes"

Wanted to take it down (from my last two paintings) to a minimal study of color and line. I distorted and exaggerated the flow of the red drapes, and also strengthened the bluish shadow.

Ready to frame.

Window Orchids 2, floral

Got a little wild and semi-abstract with these, but I love the closer view and the thick paint! Did this one alla prima, or all at once in one session. used loads of paint and let it squish all around. Too much fun!

Ready to frame.

Size: 6 in X 6 in (15.2 cm X 15.2 cm)

Fading Glory, wildlife, buck

"Fading Glory"

I just added the buck to this older painting, and brightened up the vines. These palm trees no longer exist, the whole area where they used to live was leveled and plowed. A tree farm has been started there.
Thanks for looking!
Ready to frame.

Dawn's Hope, Florida Sunrise

"Dawn's Hope"

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!

I really sensed a feeling of joy and anticipation as the sun came up and the fog lifted. This painting is symbolic for the way we have a new clean start anytime we chose to trust in Christ. I am not talking about religion, just about talking to God and asking him to forgive us. He is more interested in hearing our thoughts and leading us in a better direction than He is watching us go through the motions of tradition. He speaks to us through nature, through people, and through His word. We just have a hard time tuning in!

Ready to frame.
