Endless Victory, palette knife angel

"Endless Victory"
About This Painting:
This is the 4th in a series of palette knife angels. I did the first angel in this style quite a while ago. I am enjoying working with bold color and thick textures. Makes for lovely abstract effects. I love the contrasting blues and oranges here, as well as the sword and the shield.

Endless Song Too, palette knife Angel

"Endless Song Too"

The format of this commissioned painting is larger than the previous painting "Endless Song," and this one is vertical instead of square.

It is actually the third palette knife painting of an angel done in this style. These are so exciting to paint, with lots of thick intense color and wonderful movement. I have already started another small one in a different color scheme and a different arrangement.

Double White Hibiscus, Watercolor Study

"Double White Hibiscus"

About This Painting:
This hibiscus grows in my front yard. Not only was I interested in the shapes of the petals, which reminded of a skirt, but I was also studying the glow of the warm and cool whites. Watercolors are a little more challenging for me than acrylics, so I was very happy with the way this one turned out!

Endless Song, Palette Knife Angel

"Endless Song"

About This Painting:
This fun little painting started as an abstract, alla prima (all at once). I began to see an angel emerge out of the wonderful colors, so I had too develop it. I absolutely love all the contrasts. Dark and light, as well as cool and warm colors, it just seems to be exploding! I also enjoy creating things with a palette knife because of the texture and abstract quality.

I can imagine this angel, along with many others, joining us when we sing songs of worship. It is as if when you praise God, no matter how bad things are, you step out of the dark shadows and step into that joy-giving light.

Maybe that is what this angel was doing. Might have been doing battle on your behalf, and then turned around, into the light as the song began, mission accomplished!

Hang Over, Abstract, Palette knife painting

"Hang Over"
About This Painting:
It started as a study of split contrasts. I was just playing with the palette knife and lots of thick paint. This is a fun approach. this time it was based completely on my mood, and the mixed emotions I was struggling with at the time. Very quickly the painting began to look like flowers hanging over the water.
Because of the abstract quality it has, almost like blurred vision, I gave it the humorous title, which made me laugh.

Azaleas Too

"Azaleas Too"
About This Painting:
I wanted to slow down the painting process and study these beautiful flowers in watercolor. This is a much more meditative approach for me. The first painting ("Wild Azaleas") that I did last month was very fun and fast, with lots of thick paint and free emotions flying off of the brush! That is so exciting to do, but does not tap into the desire to capture a soft subtle beauty. This painting, in contrast, was planned out every step of the way, and helped me connect with a more contemplative and intellectual technique.
Ready to frame.

Splash Down 2, Atlantic Ocean

"Splash Down 2"

About This Painting:
This is a take off of a painting I did in October of 2007. It started as a demonstration for a painting lesson. I wanted to make it brighter and less threatening. This painting is also smaller, and I made the colors stronger.

Enjoy!
