Palette knife painting of the Rockys in Montana. Every time I go home to visit, I take tons of pictures. I enjoy reliving the memories each time I paint them. This painting is a demo I did for one of my after-school classes. It was fun helping 8 and 9 year olds learn to paint with a knife! I added more details a few days later.

Out to Pasture, landscape with horse and pond

About This Painting:
One of my favorites. Lots of symbolism here. The cattle are a memory of the horse's old job. He's headed for the shade of the trees to rest and enjoy the day. The end of summer is for the last season of life. The peaceful glow in the water and the hidden bird is for the new life that is found after this one.

I was inspired from a camping trip; I went for an early walk and came across this scene.  I combined several pictures of this area to get a stronger composition.

This is an award-winning painting.  It continues on the sides, so framing is optional.

Went back and strengthened the shadows and some of the colors in this older painting, and added the doe. Always felt like something should go in the opening. I originally painted this one from pictures I took out painting on location. There were lots of deer in the area, but my photos of the deer didn't turn out very well. I created this doe from memory.

Took pictures of this great egret on a foggy morning while I was at Lake Okeechobee. We were in a drought and the grasses and weeds had taken over. This whole area was usually under water! I was attracted to the contrast of the orange bushes and the green grasses.

Watched the sun come up through the fog. Painted this a while ago from photos I took. I did the whole thing in layers, adding the fog over each section, it was quite challenging to get the effect to look right.

Frosted Palms, Florida landscape

"Frosted Palms"

About This Painting:
We have had some hard freezes already this winter. On this particular morning, my car was iced over, and I don't even own an ice scraper to remove it from my windshield. I had to put the defroster on high heat to get a hole big enough to see through!

I saw this scene early that morning while driving just north of Okeechobee City, near Fort Drum, which is south of Orlando in the middle of the state. It was truly amazing! For the first hour of my drive everything was frost covered, and then the sun began to break through the patches of fog. Then everywhere the sun hit was a bright orange, and all the shadows were sparkling blue from the ice.

I used to live in Montana, so ice is not strange to me, it is just strange to see it on palm trees in Florida!

Lots of birds in Florida this time of year! Great egrets, cattle egrets, herons, woodstorkes.....It is always so exciting to see them and take pictures of them. I painted this one from photos a while ago, but I have always liked the way it captures the feeling bird noises and flight.....

Heaven's Joy, seascape angel at sunset

"Heaven's Joy"

About This Painting:
This is another one I did on watercolor paper. It is a harder support to work on, but nice for framing because it can be easily matted and put behind glass, even trimmed some if needed.

I painted the landscape from memories of Guam. We always had fantastic sunsets with intense colors. I added the angel for wishes of Joy.
