Maggie Mae, yellow labrador, animal portrait

"Maggie Mae"
24 x 30 inches
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

In  memory of Maggie.  Combined different images to put this custom painting together.  The rocks were very challenging! Wanted them to look just like the rocks on her wall.  So many wonderful contrasts: soft fur and hard rocks, pink azaleas and green grass... Yellow butterflies for added accents, just love co-creating custom orders with my clients!

Chloe and Sweetie, macaw and green-cheek parrot

"Chloe and Sweetie"

So excited to finally get to post this!  It was a custom painting for a Christmas present, so I didn't want to spoil the surprise!

Used different photos of these two, and combined them into one setting.  Had to figure out the size relationship between them... Love the colors and simulated textures.

New Hope, Brahmans, cattle, Florida Art

"New Hope"
© Fawn McNeill 2015

Painted this a couple of years ago, but didn't get to post it because I couldn't get a good image of it.  I  wanted to make it available in prints, so I tried again. (This painting includes a unique custom frame.)

I actually took pictures of this calf peeking around a tree.  The mother was a little farther away.  Took a lot of nice images of different cows and bulls as well.  Next, I sketched out some ideas before drawing this composition onto the canvas.  I added water and mist to the background for that foggy morning haze that is so common around here. The flowers add the feeling of spring, a time for new life and hope.

I Am, true immortal, Jesus

"I Am"
20 x 24 inches
Acrylic on canvas

By far the most challenging thing I have ever painted.  More than a year of work, and many tears went into this painting.

I kept thinking about the focus of Halloween: fear, death, blood, the un-dead, etc....  I thought about the one who brings love, life, forgiveness, joy, and restoration.  I'm not talking about religion or rules or tradition.  (I'm talking about the man who gave us two commandments: Love God Almighty with all your mind, heart and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself.) So I wanted the focus to be on him!

"Very Truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I Am!"  John 8:58

Rough Water, Pelican, Wildlife, realism

"Rough Water (Pelican)"
©FawnMcNeill 2004
11 x 14 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
SOLD

I created this painting quite a few years ago-- from some photos I took at the Fort Pierce inlet. It began as a palette knife painting. But then I got into the brush work applied over the cool textures that the knife made. I love the hard rocks against the feathers, and all of that against the moving water. Nice contrasts. Added lots of details.

Gulf Breeze, seascape, sandy shore

"Gulf Breeze"

Just finished this one this morning!  Worked on it for a few weeks. I used some of my older photos as a spring board, then moved things around for a stronger composition.  Originally wanted to keep it more impressionistic and painterly, but once again I added more and more detail.

Rock Wall, mini mural, stones, faux finish

Acrylic Mural

I've wanted to paint rocks on the wall, above my counters, for years!  So this summer I finally did it!
I love the colors and the texture, but most of all, I love the way it actually tricks the eye to look like real stones piled up on each other.  The wall was already textured, so that helped with the illusion.

Prints are available:
7 x 10 inches, matted to 11 x 14 for easy framing
$45.00 each, or $75.00 for 2 (includes shipping).

Email me: fawn@fawnsartstudio.com

Here is how I started.  The far right side was the hardest to reach:

I removed the switch plates and sanded them with sand paper to roughen them up some, then I primed them with gesso, so the paint won't be as apt to peal.  You can see how I matched the left one into the mural below.

Red oxide, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, white, black, and yellow oxide turned out to be the colors I used the most.  I used Liquitex Basics (not the Matte series). I kept the paint moist with a small spritzer bottle of water, misting a little bit more often instead of a lot all at once, so as to not make puddles.  Used a palette knife to paint some extra texture now and then, also used a crumpled paper towel for some of the texture.  Had to leave it alone and let it thoroughly dry between coats before painting over the extra texture or it would just take the paint off.  The textured wall made it easy to add more texture, and I didn't need much.  It also made it interesting, trying to use it to enhance the rocks.  I kept my shadows consistent with the light source of the window, giving the rocks some depth.

This took me a week, 3 or 4 hours every time I had a chance.
Approximately 25 hours

Rise and Shine, dairy cows and deer at sunrise

"Rise and Shine"
©2014

I created this painting for the new year quite some time ago. I used to live out on Rucks Road, and the Dairy was just around the corner. Took lots of photos and did some plein air studies too. Bright sunlight is breaking through the cool morning shadows. Symbolic for a new start, putting off the old and walking in the light. It is about overcoming depression and finding joy again.

Old Barn, pond, duck with ducklings

"Old Barn"
14 x 18 inches,
Acrylic painting
Sold

This painting started as a demo for my adult class last spring. Added lots of extra details, like the ducks, hay in the barn, a fence, and birds flying overhead.  I don't always finish the demo's, but I liked the way this one turned out, so I stayed with it.

Enjoy!

Early Joy, sunrise seascape, inspirational art

"Early Joy"
10 x18 inches
Acrylic on canvas

Finished!   I had suggestions to add dolphins and angels..... decided not to add birds this time, as I didn't want to take away from the suggestion of an angel in the light source.

Yellow is symbolic of joy, and orange is warm and inviting.  Pinks and blues are calming and peaceful.  This painting goes out with prayers for emotional healing, restoration, and joy.

Enjoy!

Next Morning, Florida landscape

"Next Morning"
Acrylic on canvas board
original  8 x 10 inches
$350.00

Finished up an old one that I had in the studio for a while.  Added mist and the nice little sunlit trees in the distance.  This started as a plein air painting, but I have rearranged everything and added the pond.  Like it much better!

I'm also working on getting stronger focal points, with a nice lead into the painting.  I think I achieved that goal this time.

Over the Dike, Lake Okeechobee, Florida Art

 "Over the Dike"
9 x 12 inches,
Acrylic on hardboard
©2006     $350.00

Here is another older one of the Lake.  Below is a comparison to the same area (lock G36) when we had a drought for a couple of years.  I was fascinated with the new bright greens that showed up more and more as the water receded.  Haven't seen anything close to that since.

In the Morning, Lake Okeechobee

"In The Morning"  © 2007
Acrylic   12 x 16
Sold

Had a request for paintings of  Lake Okeechobee.  I have done a lot of them, but it has been a while.  This one is probably my favorite of all of the lake paintings I have done over the past 30 years.  Hard to believe I have been here that many years! (I moved 15 times as a child and 5 times as a young adult.)  I guess I wanted to settle down, ha ha ha!

As I painted it, I was singing a song that has this verse in it: "Oh Lord in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee and will look up . . ." Psalm 5:3

Easy does It, Florida Art, palms, turtle, gator

"Easy Does It"

Love the little turtle on the trunk of the closer palm and the birds in the dead tree. I was inspired to paint this while out on a fishing trip.  It is cool how the palms grow upward after being blown down in a storm. Cycles of life are so fragile, and so evident.

Enjoy!

Winter Marsh, Florida landscape with egrets

"Winter Marsh"

This is an old favorite.  Something about it speaks to me.  Florida winters give way to some fall colors, and the memory of this day is windy and cold.  Well, cold for us is in the 40's, but still, it is a nice change from the normal humid air.  I also like the way the birds are flying out of the picture, you get the sense that they will be gone in a moment.

Great Egret, knife painting

Great Egret,  class demo
9 x 12 inches, acrylic knife painting.
(Not Available)

Donated this painting for one of our raffles for the
Top of the Lake Art Fest,
as part of a fund raiser for Okeechobee Main Street,
who puts on the show every year.

This demo painting for my adult class did not start as a knife painting.  We used brushes as I demonstrated each step.  Then I added more detail to finish it up later and got carried away with the thick chunky paint (using a palette knife) for the bark on the tree.  Did more knife work to the rest of the painting also.  But I used a brush for the soft feathers of the egret, and the flowers.  Love the contrast of the thick and thin applications of paint.

Congrats to Gloria Pitsch for winning this painting!

Healed, inspirational art, beach, girl, angel

"Healed"

Started this painting completely from memory. Made it up as I went along.  (Used reference photos of different children to free-hand the girl onto the painting.)

This is all about inner healing, accepting yourself, forgiving yourself, and letting go of the past.  But, sometimes we have to deal with the issues and do the hard work to get past it, which this painting really did for me as I struggled with my stormy past.

Lots of symbolism:  The shadow of the cross, the face of Jesus in the sand, a dove hidden in the wave near her head (for the Holy Spirit), an angel dancing in the clouds, the heart shape encircling her, and the storm moving away.

Kitty Cat, class demo, pets

"Kitty Cat"
(original class demo)

This was a fun example for my kid's class.  Students did a realistic drawing of an animal up close (free hand): bunnies, cats, puppies, birds, lion cub, fox, etc... Then we transferred it to watercolor paper drawing very lightly with pencil.   We used pen and ink to exaggerate the details before adding fun and/or strange colors with watercolors!  They turned out great!

I have a show coming up Saturday the 28th of January in Sebring, Florida. I'll be indoors at the agricultural center on Hwy 27, south of town.  It is sponsored by the Lake Placid Art league.  Hope you will come see me!  I'll have some reduced prices and they give away door prizes from the artists every thirty minutes!

Passion of Flowers, double hibiscus

Here is an old favorite! I absolutely love these double hibiscus.  They grow near my driveway.  It blooms in shades of red, peach, and sometimes yellow. All on the same bush!

This painting took a few months, but it finally came together. The painting continues on the sides. so framing is optional.

Fond Memories, horses, mountain landscape

"Fond Memories"
18 x 24 inches
Acrylic on canvas

Just updated this image for prints and gifts!

Made most of this painting from memory. Actually I created it from a few different memories of my summers in Montana, and I also combined different horses.  I put the Swede mountain range in the distance, but used the gorge from  Libby Creek to set it all off.  I made the stream bigger than I remember it too.   I added less mud and more water to clean it up.

You can get cards and prints, and other cool stuff with this image on it!
