"Family Reunion"
16 x 20 inches
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

Pretty much made this painting up.  Started with a cool photo of the tree laying down, which I had painted once before in its original setting.  I changed the sky from gray to sunset, and added the tall pines from other photos of the area. I saw tons of sandhill cranes gathering in a pasture and loved the idea of putting them in this painting, so I added the water and the cranes for more interest.

The original is sold, but you can click here for prints of this image in a variety of sizes!

Mama Bear, Florida black bear with cubs

"Mama Bear"
Drew this idea many times on sketch paper, then drew it on the canvas.  After two years of changing my mind, re-arranging/adjusting, and working on it off and on, I finally finished it!

Enjoy!

Gone Fishing, Little Green Heron

"Gone Fishing"

I have tried for years to get a good image of this painting. Finally, I have one that doesn't have a glare on it!

Lots of tiny details, and hours of work! I even painted little fish swimming in the water. Too much fun.

Enjoy!

Flutter By, landscape with butterfly

"Flutter By"

Created as a class demonstration from one of my student's photos. I left out some of the flowers, and exaggerated the hills. I also placed the butterfly at a different angle.  This  is one of the few demos that turned out nice right off the bat.  Didn't have to add very much to it to finish it up.

Thanks for looking!

Paradise at Sunset, Florida landscape with wildlife

"Paradise at Sunset"

This painting is the second in a series I started this summer.  I created them both from memory.  The animals are free-handed onto the canvas after I practice drawing them on paper first.  This time I reversed things and brightened the sky. Also included deer, egrets, turkey, hogs, and a gator. This is a truly original painting.  Most of mine are (unless I am doing one for a client that wants something from their photos).  I use my own images and /or my own sketches and free-hand everything.  Many artists today copy from photos, literally.  They get enlargements trace it off -- and sometimes it is not even their own photos!  You can read more about that by clicking here.

Easy Does It, Southern sunset, palms, wildlife

"EASY DOES IT"

Been working on this one for a couple of years, off and on.  Finally decided to add a turtle instead of birds on the trunk of the closer palm. I was inspired while out on a fishing trip.  Just love the way the palms grow upward after being blown down in a storm.

Enjoy!

Peppys Picasso, animal portrait

"PEPPYS PICASSO"

Finally finished up this painting, which I started before I had to have major surgery. Had a month of being in bed, and then trying to re-open my gallery, so it has been one of those things that I kept working on in between everything else. It really turned out nice, however.
Peppy is a two time world champion in the western reining events. He has won other honors as well.  He is a magnificent horse. I think I have done justice to him.

Just before Christmas, my appendix ruptured and encapsulated my ovary.  I went around for over two weeks with pain, thinking It was my ovary. I was diagnosed with an ovarian tumor and cysts, which are common. My ovary was swollen to the size of an orange because all the poisons went into my female organs.  Needless to say, when they went in to take out the tumor they found a mess! A large sticky ball of goo instead of a tumor.  They took out everything. Ended up with a hysterectomy and an appendectomy, and they cleaned out all the poisons.  I am fortunate to be alive, as often the toxins kill people.  I am two months into recovery, and still battle the pain from it, although it is not nearly as severe.

(Click here to read more about the new studio and the cool dreams I had just before my appendix ruptured.)

I thank the Lord for giving me a new lease on life, and I look forward to what he has for me next!

Fond Memories, mountain landscape with horses running

"Fond Memories"

Made most of this painting from memory. Actually I created it from a few different memories of my summers in Montana, and I also combined different horses.  I put the Swede mountain range in the distance, but used the gorge from  Libby Creek to set it all off.  I made the stream bigger than I remember it too. It was always a muddy mess right here where the horses crossed it regularly.  I added less mud and more water to clean it up some.  Plus I love all the splash.  I used some photos for the horses, but left a few of them out and changed their colors to symbolize my childhood dreams.  This painting took months to complete, and then I went back and reworked it too.

ENJOY!

Still Waters, Wood Duck with reflections

"Still Waters"

I was caught up in the movement of the water mostly, and of course the wonderful feel of soft feathers and tiny details.  This is one of the few oil paintings I still have available.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want (for anything); He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.
Psalms 23:1-2

This painting is one of my early works from when I used to paint in oils.  Severe allergies to the solvents caused me to fall in love with the water clean up of acrylics.  I use the paint in a similar way, only everything moves much faster now. Oils takes 2 weeks to dry, and acrylics dry in 10 or 15 minutes, so corrections and layers of colors are made  quickly, and the final details are much easier to add now because I can rest my hand on the dry painting while I sharpen up areas that need more interest. What used to take months to complete takes a week or two if I stay with it!

Returning Thanks, wildlife art, blue heron

"RETURNING THANKS"

I did around ten of these runny and drippy paintings.  They are done with acrylics on canvas, at a standing easel, so all the paint runs down.  It's a messy and fast application of layers of paint. Then I add the details over that once it is dry, so the contrast of warm and cool colors is played up against the contrasting thin against thick paint.  It has to be sealed with a few coats of clear sealer because the integrity of the paint has been jeopardized.

Just made this older painting available in prints and cards. You can order what ever size you want.

Tootsie, horse portrait, equine art

"Tootsie"

This is a portrait of a filly I did for a friend of mine.  Tootsie was a yearling for this pose.  I added a better background and really enjoyed creating the details of fur and hair.  Love her expressive eyes too.

Dolphin Daze, seascape, beach sunrise

"Dolphin Daze"

Just finished this larger composition last week. Have worked on it for over a month. Loved creating all the colors. I especially enjoyed adding the pileus clouds. I have seen them before with rainbow colors looking almost like rings of Saturn, so I added them here for a fantasy effect. I also hid dolphins in the clouds. It is hard to make some of them out on this small screen, but in the prints (and in the original) they show up nicely.

Enjoy!
