Paynes Prairie, Plein Air Painting

"Paynes Prairie"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(ready to frame)

Went up to Micanopy today, just south of Gainesville. Had a workshop with Linda Blondheim. She is an excellent instructor. It was windy, cold, and absolutely beautiful. Don't think I even came close to the feast of colors my eyes enjoyed today. It was a fantastic day!

Freedom, Plein Air Lanscape by Fawn

"Freedom"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

After doing laundry, running errands, grocery shopping, etc . . . I started to do some yard work in the early afternoon. But I got my priorities straight this time and pulled out my easel first! It was just too perfect: nice cool breeze, bright sunshine, and a perfect view in the shade. This is the first time in 6 or 7 months that it has been cool enough to paint past noon.

I live next door to the Freedom Ranch, south of Okeechobee city, and this is one of the great views I have of their ranch. Down the long driveway you will find an open-air church among horses, cows, and dogs. Quite an interesting place.
After I did this painting I got busy and did some yard work too. Just wanted to pull a few weeds, but my husband cut down a tree, and had me hauling off branches . . . Am I glad I painted first!

Autumn Study, Fall Leaves, Plein Air Painting

"Autumn Study"
©2005
7 x 11 inches
(ready to frame)
Watercolor

I didn't finish today's painting, so here is one I did on location in South Carolina a couple of years ago. It was so cold that morning that my fingers stopped working! I painted until I couldn't hold the brush . . .

Thanks for looking!

From Ruck's Road, Dairy Cows, Plein Air Painting by Fawn

"From Rucks Road"
16 x 20 inches
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This is one of my earlier plein air paintings. I did three paintings of the dairy cows on this country road. It wasn't so bad while I did this one very early. But then the cows came up near me . . . It was smelly, had lots of flies, and I was dripping in sweat by 8:00 am! I tried to shoo them off, but they hung out next to the fence.
Needless to say, I learned to set up in the shade, and I have not gone near the dairy to paint again! LOL.

Rim Water, Sunrise Landscape, Old oak, Plein Air

"Rim Water"
(Lake Okeechobee)
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on canvas

This is another older painting that I did a few years ago, I have added the egrets and a few more highlights to it. My photography is better now too, much more true to the right colors, and contrast. Of course, each monitor varies some in color too. My camera tends to throw off a blue cast, so I am learning how to adjust for that and get a better image.

I am glad I painted it when I did, because this old tree was taken out and now a huge house is in it's place. Sad face here.

I have to go back to the courthouse today. Jury duty . . .

Thanks for looking!

Inlet Park Too, Florida Plein Air, Alla Prima, Beach

"Inlet Park Too"

This is the second one I did yesterday. I may add birds to it, but I kind of like it as is. A large osprey showed up and caught a very large fish in front of me. He could not get out of the water and struggled for sometime near the shore. Then he let the fish go and flew off. Very exciting!

Inlet Park, Plein Air Florida, Alla Prima, Daily Painting

"Inlet Park"

Had a great morning -- worked on location out at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. There are two sides to the park, one is on the ocean, with great beaches, the other is at the inlet, where the Indian River comes into the ocean. I enjoyed painting with the Plein Air Painters of the Treasure Coast. Lori McNamara heads up our group.
I had fun with the colors and the interesting shapes in this little piece of the inlet. This inlet is where the inter-coastal waterway meets the ocean. It makes interesting currents in the water as the salt and fresh water mix.

Morning Rain, Plein Air, White City Park, Daily Painting

"Morning Rain"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is the second painting I did Tuesday morning with my plein air group. It sprinkled some, but not enough to rain us out. The night before it really stormed and flooded much of the park. I worked on this one some when I got home. The rain had left streaks on the painting. I also touched up the Wood stork that was running along the shore behind the foreground tree.

River Oak, Plein Air, Daily Painting

"River Oak"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

Went out to White City Park again yesterday. This old moss covered oak was inviting -- hanging over the river. The east coast had a great deal more rain than we did inland. The water level was very high, Some of the benches and pavilions were partially underwater! Everything looked totally different from last week.

Overcome, Plein Air, Impressionism, Palms

"Overcome"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas

SOLD

Went out with the Treasure Coast Plein Air Painters group yesterday. It was fun. We were painting at White City Park.

When I saw this little palm hanging out, I had to paint it. I love these palms because you know at one time they were blown over. The growth pattern tells me that at one time this tree started to turn and grow back up even after it was blown down. It reminds me of all the times we have to change course in life, and overcome hardships. We don't have to let things become an excuse to destroy us. Just like this tree is more interesting because it kept going, so are we.

At Lake Istokpoga, Impressionism, Plein Air

"At Lake Istokpoga"
5 x 7 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

This is the third painting I did Tuesday out at Lake Istokpoga (iss-ta-po-ga). This small painting has a very simple composition, yet it works well. I was very happy with the lighting and the movement. I did it alla prima (all in one session).

"Lake Istokpoga Too"

This is the second painting from Tuesday morning. I added the great blue heron when I got home. He had been sitting at the end of the dock most of the morning, then he just took off!

Lake Istokpoga, Plein Air Landscape, Impressionism

"Lake Istokpoga"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard

I headed north of here, toward Sebring yesterday morning. (This lake is pronounced iss-ta-poe-ga.) It was so nice out that I stayed until lunch time. I did three paintings, which I will be posting over the next couple of days.

The wind was kind to keep me cool. There were lots of trees for shade, and so many birds posing for me, that I had to keep stopping for more pictures! What a great morning.
I added the birds after I got home, I just couldn't leave them out! smile.

Lock Closed, Historical Plein Air, Drought

"Lock Closed"
8 x 10 inches
(ready to frame)
Acrylic on hardboard

This morning I painted the boat channel, which has been closed most of this year. The water used to come up around the rocks. Every bit of the grass here was covered in water. Now the little puddle on the right is barely ankle deep. The tall grasses near the middle of the rock way are taller than a person while standing on the rocks.
This is the same area that I painted last November: "Over the Dyke."
Then I painted it again after the drought had set in,

Boom Boom Boom!, Floral Plein Air, Bromeliads

"Boom Boom Boom!"
5 x 7 inches
(ready to frame)
Acrylic on hardboard

This is a tribute to Lori McNamara, who does wonderful plein air palette knife paintings! I must say it was exciting, messy, and fun! This is my first one on location using only a knife. My previous knife paintings were done in the studio from my own photos.

These bromeliads remind me of firecrackers, such an explosion of bright color.

"Let's Party"
5 x 7 inches

Many things are blooming right now, so I went out this morning and found this amazing lily. It is a spider lily, and it reminds me of party streamers!

It was done alla prima (all in one session).

Low Profile, Plein Air, Daily Painting

"Low Profile"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on canvas-hardboard
(Ready to Frame)
$670.00
The lake is still very low, the water used to come up close to the palm tree in the foreground. The pier is just off to the right, but their is no water under it at all.

I had a great morning! 75 degrees and a nice breeze . . . It hasn't been that nice is a long time. I stayed a couple of hours and had all kinds of interesting people stop and visit! One man had a bird on his shoulder that laughed just like a person! My husband even came and brought me breakfast. Can't beat that!

Crepe Myrtle, Watercolor, Plein Air

Crepe Myrtle Study
9 x 12 inches
Watercolor
$500.00

Went out at sunset and rushed through this splash of color! I have wanted to paint these for quite sometime, but they are on the side of the house that rarely gets sun. So I had to do them quickly. I like the shadows on the house, and the loose painterly quality.

Singing the Blues, Plein Air Painting

"Singing the Blues"
(Plumbagos)
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on  hardboard

I have always felt like flowers sing their own silent song. Artists also sing silent songs. We pour out our colors and our soul for others to embrace or reject. We do not recieve the fame of singers and actors, yet we keep singing.

Enjoy!
