About This Painting:
Very fun little palette knife painting, from my Montana memories. Totally made it up out of my head! Usually, I use photos from my visits home, but this time I just wanted to see if I could do it. Quite proud of the results! I love the thick textures I get with the palette knife!

Orchid Study, plein air

Orchid Study
About This Painting:
Got out this morning and painted these lovely orchids that my husband grows. This is actually the second try, as the first one got to detailed in the background and took away from the flowers, So I simplified the background and then repainted the orchids!
It was a wonderful morning, cool and breezy for a change. I was enjoying myself and then just as I was finishing the second try, my husband starts weed-eating! There were bugs and grass flying everywhere. So I called it quits and helped with the yard work.

Splash Down 2, Atlantic Ocean

"Splash Down 2"

About This Painting:
This is a take off of a painting I did in October of 2007. It started as a demonstration for a painting lesson. I wanted to make it brighter and less threatening. This painting is also smaller, and I made the colors stronger.

Enjoy!

Tears

"Tears"

About This Painting:
For my Daily Painters 'out of the box' theme on Wed. Definitely something out of my comfort zone!
I have been working on this for a few weeks. It wasn't intended to be a self portrait, but I did use myself as a starting point, then I thinned out the eyebrows and plumped up the lips. I used thin layers of interesting color combinations, like orange and violet, or light blue in the shadows. I really like the colors.
Ready to frame.

Dawn, Daily Painting, wildlife art by Fawn

"Dawn"

This is all about the dawn of this new year. This pair of white ibis represents freedom and love.

We all make resolutions, but for me, it is deeper than that. I have been wanting to get back to painting more spiritual art again, more symbolism and parables. So this is the first. The dawning of new ideas, new visions, and new dreams. I am looking forward to what this year holds!

Thanks for stopping by!

Lake Lilies, lily pads with flowers, daily painting

"Lake Lilies"
© Fawn McNeill 2007

I just love this vertical format. I did one titled "Boat Trail" not too long ago from this same area of Lake Okeechobee. Created this from photos I took before the drought. I loved going out and looking at miles of these wonderful water lilies.

The canvas wraps around and the sides are painted so framing is optional.

Drifting, shoreline driftwood, Daily Painting by Fawn

"Drifting"

I love driftwood. It reminds me of my grandmother who collected it for her flower gardens. I painted this from some photos I took last year. I like the movement.

The mat board adds a nice texture to the water, so I used that to exaggerate the broken light on the water.

I tried to keep it loose and impressionistic, which is difficult for me.  Usually, I end up overworking a painting and adding too much detail.

Thanks for looking!

Splash Down, East Coast Beach

"Splash Down"

When I was at the beach, a couple of weeks ago, the foam and splash came up past my knees! What a wonderful morning.

The wind and salt air took me back to my teen years when I lived in the Pacific Islands. We spent every event on the beach, in Hawaii, and in Guam. I enjoyed reliving the memories in this painting.

Now I live inland- in the center of Florida. It is about an hour's drive from my house to the coast.  I haven't had such a great time there in a few months. The weather, the lighting, and the inspiration - well, it was just perfect.

Winning Time, Equestrian Art, Daily Painting by Fawn

"Winning Time"
11 x 14 inches
Acrylic on canvas
$875.00  Framed (see below)

Painted this from a photo I took at the rodeo here in Okeechobee. We have 2 big events each year, and some smaller ones also.

Started this painting at the beginning of this week, but I didn't get much time to work on it. I enjoyed playing with the abstract background, and contrasting that with the realistic horse and rider
. I also like the determined look on the girls face.

Hope and Joy, Horses, Mare and foal, Realistic impressionism

"Hope and Joy"

I love the soft textures of fur and the glow of warm colors in this small painting. The miracle of a new life and the closeness of a protective mother give this painting many implications. Even the names of the horses imply a touch from our Father.

These yearlings are like teenagers! Lots of fun taking the pictures I used.  Lots of hours getting the composition right before I even started painting this one. Drew it all out on paper first.  Left out some of the horses, and changed their colors to set them off.

Meek and Powerful, Stallion, Abstract, Realism

"Meek and Powerful"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on canvas board
$575.00
unique custom frame

I like the contrast between the abstract background with the realistic stallion. A friend of mine breeds paints, This is one of her studs. Some of her horses have one or even two blue eyes.
Meekness is not the same as weakness. This stallion willingly submits his energy and power to his master. All of that is harnessed and used for remarkable feats. It is the same for living a Christian life.

Rough Water, Wildlife, Realism, Pelican

"Rough Water (Pelican)"
11 x 14 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
SOLD

I created this painting a few years ago-- from some photos I took at the Fort Pierce inlet. It began as a palette knife painting. But then I got into the brush work applied over the cool textures that the knife made. I love the hard rocks against the feathers, and all of that against the moving water. I wanted to make all those contrasts stand out. This is one of those paintings that I just got carried away with and kept adding more and more detail.

Amazing story. I paintind this filly in some of my paintings, at least a similar looking foal. Then I saw her at an auction, and bought her! She was just a yearling then. I named her Misty Dawn. About 6 months later My check still had not cleared. When I called the establishment they informed me that they closed down the business. The check never did get cashed! Misty was a a great gift!
