Endless Joy, palette knife angel

"Endless Joy"

Took one of my abstracts and added this angel to it.  Love the way it came together!

This angel is for the kind of joy you can only find (even in hard times) when you lay down your plans and seek the Lord's.

Angels are not like humans and humans do not become angels (according the the holy scriptures).  The fallen angels are far out numbered, and we have been given power over them in Jesus name. So when we forgive and pray blessings on others and ourselves, our Father's angels battle for us, helping us overcome the trials and hardships that come against us.  They have been given charge over those who seek the Lord.

Summer Camp, Mountain Landscape

"Summer Camp"
© Fawn McNeill 2014

Just added the canoe to this painting of the Spokane River.  There was a bunch of canoes piled up just to the right, so I decided to pull this one over and include it.  I didn't want it to take away from the rest of the painting, so I added lots of weeds in front of it.  I like the way it adds more interest to the composition.

This painting is about Retreats and Bible camp.  So many life-changing decisions and good memories!

Enduring Love, Cross with a dove at sunrise

"Enduring Love"
© Fawn McNeill 2008

This is surrealism. Lots of symbolism too. The sunrise represents the new covenant,  and the crown of thorns is for the suffering Jesus bore for us to find healing and eternal life. The dove is for the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ, who lives in us when we commit to living for Him.  (This is not the same as being religious,  but living day to day instead as He leads us. This is accomplished by His strength and power to overcome the hardships we all face.)

Tea Time, teapot still life study

"Tea Time"

Painted this in 2003, my senior year at Florida Atlantic University.
Loved all the movement in the folds of the fabric, and the cast shadows on the pot. This has to be the hardest still life study that I have ever done!

Bushes and Beaches, Plein air painting, seascape with sand dunes

"Bushes and Beaches"

Got to do a paint-out a couple of weeks ago! Even though it was extremely hot that morning, it was by far the best plein air (on location) painting  I have done in a long time.  Way too much fun with my friends from Pennsylvania!  Thank goodness for the little pavilion we had for shade and a cooler of ice cold water!

Big Lake Sunset, knife landscape painting

"Big Lake Sunset"

This is an older painting. I did it alla prima, or all at once, it is of Lake Okeechobee.  I truly love the texture and color that is unique to knife paintings.  Some of my students are doing palette knife beach scenes right now, so I wanted to post this one in response to what we are doing in class.

Forsaking All Others, pointillism of a red rose

"Forsaking All Others"
18" x 24"
ink, pointillism

This drawing won Best of Show in my second year in college.  I just made it available in print.  It is made up of hundreds of tiny dots.  Shadows are created by placing the dots closer and overlapping them at times.  Highlights are made by scattering the dots farther apart. Very intricate and detailed work.

Heaven's Touch, girl riding a horse at sunset on a beach

"Heaven's Touch"

I did this large painting a few years ago, and now I just made it available in print.  It combines many thoughts and memories from many places.   Poured myself into it for a few months. Created entirely from memory!  Love the way it came together.

Here is what I originally wrote about it:
I have been working on this painting off and on for almost a year now. It is all about contrasts and texture, as far as the technical aspects go.

This painting is far reaching too. Emotionally we all have things that need healing. Sometimes a sunrise or a sunset, a cup of coffee with a friend, or a moment of silence can touch us deeper than anything else at that time. This painting combines some of those ideas: dreams I have had, horses I have ridden, and prayers cried out from the depth of my soul in my most turbulent times. Always God reaches out and heals the hurt a little more.

Butterfly Garden, plein air painting

"Butterfly Garden"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Sold

Got to do the last plein air (outdoors on location) paint-out with Lori McNamara until fall.  It was muggy and hot and very hard to get inspired at first. But once I got going I really enjoyed it.  This is at the Oxbow Eco-center in Fort Pierce. Had a little girl watch off and on, and then she got so close I wanted to give her the brush!  She loved it and told me what a good job I was doing.  Too cute!

Added the cardinal (which I saw flying around), and the butterflies (which were not flying around) after I got home. I couldn't paint the butterfly garden and not add butterflies!
