Endless Life, angel, knife painting

"Endless Life"
© Fawn McNeill 2009

I haven't been painting much, due to an injury to my right hand/wrist.  So I am posting this older favorite little knife painting.  I created it when I was doing a lot of small palette knife paintings. I did this for Christmas back in 2009!

Christmas Shore, mixed media

Christmas Shore
9.50 x 12 inches
mixed media on wood

Just added the starfish and sand dollars to this fun project.
Started this a few years ago, but I wasn't sure if it was finished. I was using the wood grain for the sand, which I have done before.  Gives it a nice effect. I truly love the small sand dollars and tiny starfish!  they add the extra something I was looking for.

Christmas Pearls, mixed media painted tree

"Christmas Pearls"

How do you find just the right little jewel?  I actually go on treasure hunts at different thrift stores and department stores for the right pieces! I couldn't find a string of pearls the right size, so I had to carefully place each pearl to create the rows. Then I chose different charms, beads, and earrings for the ornaments.

I laid it all out before adhering everything to the painted tree. Changed my mind a few hundred times! Or so it seems.  I used Liquitex matte gel medium to secure it all one piece at a time.  (No hot glue).

This tree is smaller than  "Christmas Hope".  It has a similar feel to it with the background snow and glitter paint setting off the jewelry.

Christmas Hope, mixed media on wood

    "Christmas Hope 2"

I added crosses, flowers, angels, and angel wings from jewelry. The red beads set it all off nicely, and the glitter paint adds extra shimmer to the snow. I love the way these turn out!

I can't put into words what this piece means to me personally. It goes out with prayers for those who will find comfort in it.

    Christmas Trees on shells

Shell ornament, front and back: Morning Christmas Trees

Fun little projects for the Okeechobee Arts and Cultural  Alliance gift shop.

Approximately 3 x 4 inches.  (Pearlescent paint on back.)

Shell ornament, front and back: Christmas Eve Trees

The colors of these seashells have a wonderful effect that reminds me of sunrise and sunset. The Christmas eve shell also suggests mountains on an ice-covered lake in the distance.

The shimmer on the back reflects the lights nicely when hung on a Christmas tree. (In case the ornament gets turned.)

Friendly Snowman, chatting with a cardinal

    "Friendly Snowman"

"How do you do?" I imagined the snowman welcoming the little red bird who seemed content to stay awhile.

Sometimes these demo paintings are just too fun to put down.  I made this one up in one afternoon for my afterschool art class.    My students will use him to add to their own winter scene, with or without the snow-covered tree. And I'm sure some will add the cardinal.

More Joy, Christmas ornament, snow, mixed media

    "More Joy"
    © Fawn McNeill 2020

I liked the first one so much that I taught this class again to a different group of students.  I added extra snow, and bling to this second Christmas Joy ornament painting. This one is a little larger.  Both were from separate demonstration paintings for art classes. I finished them up later with details, metallic paint, and glitter paint.

Christmas Snow, Christmas tree, mixed media

    "Christmas Snow"

Went back and embellished this demo by adding glitter paint, and metallic paint.  I have done 3 of these, each one is a little different in the the background and the placement of the Christmas tree. This one has lights coming down, reminiscent of a hint of  Northern lights, and a suggestion of a frozen lake or pond.
This is always a fun lesson for the children's art class.

I framed it in an expensive frame, seemed to really set it off (see below).

    Heaven's Grace, Knife painting, Dove

     "Heaven's Grace"
© by Fawn McNeill, Dec. 2020

This is a demonstration painting from last year. I was using the knife to paint over a smoothly painted background (used a brush for the background).  I wanted to exaggerate the contrast of the smooth texture against the rough texture.
This painting is special to me because I sign my name with a dove as a thank you to God the Father.  The dove is symbolic for the Holy Spirit.

    Morning Flight, angel, knife painting

    "Morning Flight"

This was a demonstration for a video lesson, but the video cut off during the session and I didn't know it. I did the whole thing thinking I was still recording!  LOL.  I went ahead and did another demo knife painting with the angel facing the other way, which recorded fine. I think this one turned out better, so I framed it up first.

I like the transparency of the angel and the soft colors. I also like the way the bottom could be sky or water.  Palette knife paintings lend themselves to abstract qualities which leaves room for the imagination. It is also fun to load up thick amounts of paint and smear it all together.

    Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Joy, painting of an ornament, mixed media

    "Christmas Joy"

This was originally a demonstration painting from a year ago that I did for one of my classes.  I finished it up recently by splattering it with white and then adding bits of silver glitter (and I also added chunky glitter where I wanted the snow to pile up more).  The gold is metallic paint and the red has some red glitter paint.  I love all the extra sparkle it added.  When you view it at different angles the light catches on it and it shines.

I put it in an expensive custom gold frame to really set it off.

    Enjoy!

    Merry Christmas!

December Snow, winter, mixed media, original art

     "December Snow"

This was originally a demonstration painting from last year.  I thought I would spruce it up a bit by adding some glitter paint and bling.  I also added an angel in the sky.  When my young students did their paintings of this scene they often added a cabin and/or a snowman.  The snow twinkles a little in the background from glitter paint. The path has chunky glitter paint along the light edges, so it sparkles when you view it at different angles.

These are fun to create! It is also a great gift idea!

Eternal Joy, angel, butterflies, mixed media painting

    "Eternal Joy"

This is inspired from a small painting I did years ago called "Endless Song".  This one is less abstract, and the colors are lighter.  I used thick gesso to build up the hair, wings, and plants for an impasto feel.  Also added beads to the headband and the belt, as well as on the gown.  The 3 metal butterflies were the most fun, because they fit so well with the colors I had already painted.  It is like a nice surprise when you see them. Adding a little iridescent paint on the wings, gown and above the head gives it a nice shimmer. When the painting is viewed at different angles, some things really catch your eye.
Can't explain how tickled I was when I added the extras, I felt like a kid.  I played with  many combinations until finally I was satisfied with this layout.  The butterflies actually made me laugh!

    Merry Christmas, Tree, mixed media

    Christmas Tree,
    Original Mixed Media,
     on canvas, 14 x 18
    SOLD

A little late, but I was very sick over the past week, didn't get to post these...
I did feel better on Christmas morning, and was so very thankful to get to enjoy my family!

Added lots of glitter paint on the ornaments.  I am enjoying the way they stand out when the light hits them a certain way.  My students are loving it and coming up with some amazing ideas!  I find myself joining them and feeling like a little girl as my youngest children get so excited when we start adding the extra bling.

Hope you had a great Christmas, and that your new year is full of love and many blessings!

    Enjoy!

Jesus Christmas, snow, Christmas tree, watercolor

    "Jesus Christmas"
    © Fawn McNeill 2016

    Merry Christmas!

Just a little mixed media watercolor I did for fun.  Drew it in pencil, then painted the colors, added some salt for the cool effects in the sky. I used extra fine sharpies for the words, after the painting dried of course!

    Waiting Orders, Warrior Angel

    "Waiting Orders"
    © Fawn McNeill 2013

Just framed this one!  (See below).  This angel is painted with a brush instead of a knife.   Creates a more blended effect. Used a cool blue color scheme instead of the bold colors I often use with the palette knife.

I wanted him to look like he was finished with one assignment and waiting for the next.  I have always thought that I must have some very serious warrior angels looking out for me!

    Acrylic on hardboard
    6 x 6 inches
    $175.00

This small painting is done on cradled hardboard, it is framed in an antique deep silver/gold frame. Ready to hang.  See below.

    Endless Joy, palette knife angel

    "Endless Joy"

Took one of my abstracts and added this angel to it.  Love the way it came together!

This angel is for the kind of joy you can only find (even in hard times) when you lay down your plans and seek the Lord's.

Angels are not like humans and humans do not become angels (according the the holy scriptures).  The fallen angels are far out numbered, and we have been given power over them in Jesus name. So when we forgive and pray blessings on others and ourselves, our Father's angels battle for us, helping us overcome the trials and hardships that come against us.  They have been given charge over those who seek the Lord.
