Slow Passage, Morning Stream

"Slow Passage"
6 x 6 inches
Acrylic on canvas
NOT AVAILABLE

Just a fun little painting, thought I would try a limited palette this morning. It's alla prima. I started with different shades of blue. then added some yellow orange and tints of yellow, yielding many wonderful shades of green. Touches of purple went into some of the shadows. Finally, accents of red were used to set it all off! I love the feeling of atmosphere that the bluish hues convey.

I was thinking about how we slowly change, we slowly find the bright spots in life and see the wonders all around us. God just puts things in our path that encourages us to get beyond the negative thoughts and He leads us to His grace.

Nature has always been one of those things that brings me back to the positive thoughts and good memories in my life. Then I can be thankful again for the many good things in my life. Seems like we can easily let the hardships we have faced rob us of the joy that is ours for the taking.

Beach Study

"Beach Study"
(with seagrapes)
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on watercolor paper

This was created from an art lesson I did with a couple of teenagers that have been hanging out with me once a month. We used a reference photo and moved things around and changed the colors. All three of our paintings turned out different. It was fun. I really like the lighting, reminds me of early morning. I love the sea-grape bushes too. I touched it up this morning and added some more detail. Then I decided it was good enough to post!

Life and Death, texture study

"Life and Death"
24 x 32 inches
acrylic on Masonite

Not For Sale

This painting was a texture study in the beginning. My instructor at the university put all kinds of strange objects on a huge table. We were to create a composition that included simulated and actual textures. Of course I had to play up the contrasting colors. And before it was over I added the rain and the new growth that often comes when things die.

This is true of us as well. Often, when we finally die to something we find hard to let go of, something new and beautiful comes form the struggle and the death. This was the first of many paintings that I added rain which is symbolic of tears and trials.

Luke's Tractor, completed mural

"Luke's Tractor"
Acrylic on a wall
Approximately 9 x 13 feet

Luke is in the tractor with an angel behind him.

Air plane in the sky, angel flying with it.

click on this one to see the doe and fawn in the middle ground.
Cows are in the distance, and hogs are in the mud.

Luke's dog is chasing a rabbit.

This mural just kept growing! I was so excited when the little boy in the tractor began to actually look like Luke! That took a few tries. Luke wanted the tractor stuck in the mud, but I liked it with the grass and didn't want to change it, so I added some mud on the tires.

Celestial Shores

"Celestial Shores"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas panel
Not available

Worked on this one for a few days, just love the greenish hues in the water. This reminds me of the crystal clear water in Montana. I used a reference photo (from a magazine of Canada) to help my student, Cindy, paint something similar, only she added flowers in the foreground. I loved the way hers turned out, so I started playing with a similar idea, changed the mountains and added the rocks and the pine tree. It was fun to get back to my Daily Paintings.
As I painted this I kept thinking about how clean and pure it all looks. I often think heaven must have mountains and crystal clear water. Living in Florida makes me long for that pure water.

ENJOY!

Gardens Past, Plein air painting

"Gardens Past"
14 x 18 inches
Acrylic on canvas
(ready to frame)
$1,800.00

This is another older painting that never got to post because I painted it before I started blogging.
The sprinklers got turned on while I was painting this garden statue. Some of the paint ran and so I played it up and exaggerated the effect.
I am still working on murals, so my daily paintings are taking longer. I do still paint everyday, but I am not pushing myself to finish one everyday because I don't want to loose the quality I am used to achieving. I have a new small daily painting very close to being done. I worked on it this weekend, but I also had company, so I didn't get as many hours in as I would have liked.
The huge wall paintings are really kicking my butt! I am wonderfully exhausted. It is a mix of adrenaline, accomplishment, and sore achy body parts! "Luke's Tractor" should be done this week. I am getting paid extra to add lots of extra subject matter. I have even painted little Luke in the tractor! And his dog chasing a rabbit! Too much fun.

Lily on Water

"Lily"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Not Available

This is an older painting. I took a picture of this water lily when I was out fishing on Lake Okeechobee. It broke loose and the stem floated up around the flower. I enhanced the colors as I painted it. It was both graceful, and interesting.

There has been a lot of theft and copyright infringement and now new laws are in the making that will not stop big companies from using any ones images, so I am beginning to implement watermarks on my images. Sorry if it is bothersome, but I would rather do this than stop posting altogether!
