"Family Reunion"
16 x 20 inches
Acrylic on canvas
SOLD

Pretty much made this painting up.  Started with a cool photo of the tree laying down, which I had painted once before in its original setting.  I changed the sky from gray to sunset, and added the tall pines from other photos of the area. I saw tons of sandhill cranes gathering in a pasture and loved the idea of putting them in this painting, so I added the water and the cranes for more interest.

The original is sold, but you can click here for prints of this image in a variety of sizes!

From a painting demo for my adult painting class. Added lots of tiny details later. Really like the hint of warm sunlight contrasting with the cool blues on all that snow!

House of Refuge Beach, rocky shore

"House of Refuge Beach"

Created this painting from photos I took at the paint-out a couple of weeks ago. It was stormy and windy in the morning when we got there, and by the time we were leaving it all cleared up! This was the scene I originally wanted to paint.  The little bird in the rocks was running up and down the the rocks searching for lunch!

The lookout tower and the House of Refuge museum is located to the left of this area.

Enjoy!

Shore of Refuge, plein aire painting

"Shore of Refuge"

Got to go out on a paint-out last week.  It was windy and cold, so we painted under a pavilion on the inter coastal side (at the House of Refuge) instead of the actual beach.  Tried to capture the feeling of stormy weather, with the sun breaking through.  By the time I finished up, the sun came out and it was absolutely beautiful! I have one in progress from the photos I took on the ocean side of this area.  It looks like completely different days!

Enjoy!

Waiting Orders, guardian angel

"Waiting Orders"

Painted this angel with a brush instead of a palette knife this time.  Wanted a softer look.  Love the color scheme.

I wanted him to look like he was finished with one assignment and waiting for the next.  I have always thought that I must have some very serious warrior angels looking out for me!

This small painting is done on cradled hardboard, the sides are painted, so framing is optional.

Enjoy!

Mama Bear, Florida black bear with cubs

"Mama Bear"
Drew this idea many times on sketch paper, then drew it on the canvas.  After two years of changing my mind, re-arranging/adjusting, and working on it off and on, I finally finished it!

Enjoy!

Gone Fishing, Little Green Heron

"Gone Fishing"

I have tried for years to get a good image of this painting. Finally I have one that doesn't have a glare on it!  This painting is now available in print.

Lots of tiny details, and hours of work! I even painted little fish swimming in the water. Too much fun.

Enjoy!

Passing Through, rainbow landscape, knife painting

"Passing Through"

The first one like this was on watercolor paper for my kid's summer art classes. The inspiration came from Van Gogh. It was done with a paint brush and didn't have much detail.  I liked the idea, however, and painted it again on hardboard with a palette knife.  Lots of fun!  Then some of my older students painted one like it with a palette knife too. I added the butterflies to finish it up.

Thanks for looking!

Flutter By, landscape with butterfly

"Flutter By"

Created as a class demonstration from one of my student's photos. I left out some of the flowers, and exaggerated the hills. I also placed the butterfly at a different angle.  This  is one of the few demos that turned out nice right off the bat.  Didn't have to add very much to it to finish it up.

Rollin Through, mountain landscape with barn

"Rollin' Through"

Originally a demonstration painting for my adult class, but I changed it quite a bit when I started adding details.  Got caught up in some good memories of a place I saw in the mountains near my grandmother's house.  My friends and I rode horses in the Rockies, and this looks a lot like one of the driveways we passed on the way. I remember watching the clouds move up along the sides of the mountain and thinking how cool that looked!

Enjoy!

Ready to frame.

Unclaimed Trophy, bass catching a dragonfly

"Unclaimed Trophy"

Actually painted this a couple of years ago.  Could not get the photography of the painting to come close to the painting, but this image is very close to the original.  (Of course monitors vary from computer to computer, but it should be a close representation. )

This was a very challenging commissioned piece.  I took pictures of my husband's stuffed trophy fish (he has 3 on the wall) to get the main idea, but I wanted the tail to flip, so I had to draw several sketches before I got it just right.   I also used pictures I had taken of our many trips out on Lake Okeechobee to add the lily pads. took me a few weeks just to get the composition drawn up on sketching paper! I free-handed it onto the canvas once I knew what I wanted.

I have painted things under the water, but this was a first for something jumping up out of the water!  The splash and spray would get much to much and I had to take it out and try again.  In the end I decided I liked the effect and finally left it as it is.

I have just made this image available in greeting cards and prints!
