"Down Stream"

Did this painting entirely from memory.  I've seen many places similar to this.   I wanted to create a strong contrast along the bank and added the fence to break it up.  There is also a gator hiding in the water.

4 Winds Ranch revised, sunrise, pasture, calf

"4 Winds Ranch"

Made a few corrections and added the little calf to this older painting.  I also added more detail to the trees and the moss.  This was originally done very impressionistically with loose brush strokes.  I was interested in the shadows and patches of sunlight with the mist in the background.    I took lots of pictures. It was a beautiful morning!  See below for frame.

Jetty Park, pelican, plein air, seascape

"Jetty Park"

 The inlet is one of my favorite places to paint. This one started as a plein air painting (demo, done on location: see below.) but I also had the privilege to teach one of my students at the same time. When I got home I added the choppy waves and the pelican on the rock right away, because the day was still fresh in my mind.  I didn't want to lose the inspiration. I added more detail to the trees and rocks too.

This is an older palette knife painting. Created it from some of my photos of the Kissimmee River. I really love the texture and thick paint.  Last week I repaired some damage, added the birds, and framed it in a nice wide frame.  Really sets it off!  (See below.)

Waiting Orders, Warrior Angel

"Waiting Orders"

Just framed this one!  (See below).  This angel is painted with a brush instead of a knife.   Creates a more blended effect. Used a cool blue color scheme instead of the bold colors I often use with the palette knife. 

I wanted him to look like he was finished with one assignment and waiting for the next.  I have always thought that I must have some very serious warrior angels looking out for me!

Morning Rush, pasture with egrets

"Morning Rush"

I originally created this as a demonstration painting. I went back later and changed it quite a bit by exaggerating the contrasting colors and adding more details. I wanted to play up the flooded pasture and add more egrets. 

Mornings (and colors of mornings) are my favorite because of the variety of shadows, highlights, and atmospheric conditions. It is also the coolest time of day in hot and humid South Florida, so this is when I like to venture out.
