Then Sings My Soul, golden finch, songbird

Love the colors, and the way these three paintings work together, and I like the way each one stands on its own too.

The titles were fun to come up with as my client had great ideas for them.

Of Thee I Sing, indigo bunting, songbird

"Of Thee I Sing"

Really like the background, it sets off the bunting without becoming distracting. I used photos from my bird feeder, and made up the flowers. I think it turned out even better than I expected!

Feel free to contact me for information on creating your own custom painting! This is part of a series that is custom made for a client.

ENJOY!

Make a Joyful Noise, oriole, song bird

"Make a Joyful Noise"

This is part of a set of three songbirds for a client. It will go to the far right, so it is the third painting. I posted it first so that when they are all posted they will come up in a nice viewing order. I have thoroughly enjoyed the cheerful colors!

At the Park Again, plein air, landscape, pond with lilies

"At the Park Again"

Back at White City Park, just can't get over how beautiful it is! Felt like I was part of a fairytale, so I used purple and blue to get started, which gives it that enchanted feeling. I added Lori McNamara in the little pavilion in the distance, as she was painting on the other side of the pond (click on the image for a zoomed in view.)

Ready to frame.

At the Park, plein air, Florida art, lilies, great egret

"At the Park"

Had wonderful paint-out in Fort Peirce today -- Everything was bright and colorful. It was my first time out in a few months. A cool breeze, warm sunshine, lilies blooming, and all kinds of birds posing right in front of me.... Got a lot of great pictures while I painted this scene. Totally enjoyed myself.

Baby Doll, little girl, ballerina

"Baby Doll"

Reworked this older painting, made a few corrections and softened some of the shadows. I named it "Baby Doll" because the whole time I was working on it I kept thinking 'she looks just like a baby doll...'

I took pictures of this little girl dancing around before the performance at an outdoor art festival. She looks a lot like one of my art students, who takes dance lessons with the same studio that performs at the festival. So I asked her mother about it and she said it could be her! I took these pictures more than 3 years ago, so that puts her at the right age too. Isn't that cool?

Cypress Shores 2, Florida landscape, wildlife, great egret

"Cypress Shores 2"

This started as a study of the cypress trees again. I love the negative spaces in the trees. They remind me of Christmas ornaments. I got a few good pictures of this great white egret as it kept flying ahead of our boat while we were fishing a few days ago. We went out in the evening this last time.

I wanted to use a brush instead of a knife this time. I tried to exaggerate the impressionistic look of the brush work in the clouds and the trees, and the water, and still get it to look fairly realistic.

This painting is composed from memory mostly. I made up the clouds, used my photos for the tree line, and used the photos of the egret to add him in last. I love working this way, free-handing the whole thing as I go. Leaves lots of room for changes and imagination.

Butterfly Wishes 4, palette knife butterfly

"Butterfly Wishes 4"

This is the fourth palette knife butterfly I have done. I like the way the knife abstracts and distorts it, so it looks like it moves!

Cypress Shores, landscape, egret and alligator, knife painting

"Cypress Shores"

Painted this palette knife painting from memory. It is from a fishing trip we went on last week. There were so many birds and alligators that I just had to add some, but the painting was really about the interesting shapes the cypress trees made with the morning sky showing through them.
The palette knife texture is thick and the colors are strong, I also like the way the contrast turned out this time.

Heaven's Answer, palette knife angel

"Heaven's Answer"

I really wanted to emphasize that the focus is not on angels, they are God's messengers, they always remind us of Christ. The fallen angels will show up as lost loved ones and try to keep us from moving on. They will do anything to keep our focus off of our hope. If we aren't careful we can forget where our thoughts and prayers should be.
God asks us in His Holy Word not to grieve as those with no hope. We have the hope of a great reunion because Jesus gave his life for us. The Bible also tells us to count our trials as joy (in the book of James), and also to look ahead and not behind (Hebrews 12 and Luke 9). With His strength, and his power we can do the things he asks. Believe me, it is not easy! If you haven't asked Jesus in your life, then that is the way to find this inner strength and power that He wants to give to you.
