Lily on Water

"Lily"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
Not Available

This is an older painting. I took a picture of this water lily when I was out fishing on Lake Okeechobee. It broke loose and the stem floated up around the flower. I enhanced the colors as I painted it. It was both graceful, and interesting.

There has been a lot of theft and copyright infringement and now new laws are in the making that will not stop big companies from using any ones images, so I am beginning to implement watermarks on my images. Sorry if it is bothersome, but I would rather do this than stop posting altogether!

Thanks for looking!

Water Lilies

"Water Lilies"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on canvas

I was very interested in the reflections at first. Then I had to decide what was the focal point? So I played down the reflections and emphasized the lily pads and the flowers. Finally, after the second try, I had a good composition. Now the reflection of the tree sets off the water lilies, instead of distracting from them!
Thanks for looking!

This painting has been reworked. See April 2010 for update.

Rucks Road 3, Plein Air Painting

"Rucks Road 3"
16 x 20 inches
Acrylic on canvas

I didn't get today's painting finished. So I am posting this one it's place.
I did this back when I first started doing plein air painting. It took a couple of days to get it done because it is so large for a plein air painting. It was hot and the bugs were horrid. I almost hung up plein air painting all together!

I have an art show all weekend, so here is an older painting that I am very fond of. It is the first of four in this series from last December 2006 (when I first began doing Daily Paintings.) I love the reflections and the colors. I keep wanting to turn the painting over!

Water's Edge, daily painting by Fawn

"Water's Edge"
6 x 6 x 3/4 inches
Acrylic on cradled hardboard
(painting continues on sides)
$300.00

Saw this plant one day while I was out painting en plein air. I was taking pictures of some birds and saw these little flowers glowing in the sun. They stood out so nicely against the water. I painted this from one of those photos.

Lake Lilies, lily pads with flowers, daily painting

"Lake Lilies"
© Fawn McNeill 2007

I just love this vertical format. I did one titled "Boat Trail" not too long ago from this same area of Lake Okeechobee. Created this from photos I took before the drought. I loved going out and looking at miles of these wonderful water lilies.

The canvas wraps around and the sides are painted so framing is optional.

Drifting, shoreline driftwood, Daily Painting by Fawn

"Drifting"

I love driftwood. It reminds me of my grandmother who collected it for her flower gardens. I painted this from some photos I took last year. I like the movement.

The mat board adds a nice texture to the water, so I used that to exaggerate the broken light on the water.

I tried to keep it loose and impressionistic, which is difficult for me.  Usually, I end up overworking a painting and adding too much detail.

Thanks for looking!

Fall's Splendor 2, Autumn Leaves, Daily Painting by Fawn

"Fall's Splendor 2"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
(ready to frame)

This is Lake Carolina near my sister's house. I did some plein air work in watercolors while I was visiting, and took lots of pictures. I did this painting today from some of those pictures. This is the second painting of this area that I have done recently. Good memories.

Waiting, Impressionism Landscape, Bird

"Waiting"
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on canvas board
SOLD
While I was out painting yesterday morning I took some good pictures of this great blue heron. He was hard to see at first because he did not move at all. I thought he was just a rock!
I really got lost in all those rocks, just kept adding more and more thick paint. It was fun.

This is from the same area as the Free art lesson I did (titled "Out Fishing") which you can find on the link on the side bar. This is just a little earlier in the morning. I love the strong contrast and the orange hues . . .

Breezy Blue,Impressionism Wildlife, Heron

"Breezy Blue"
8.5 x 4 inches
Acrylic on Watercolor Paper
Not Available

I like the tension: feels like the great blue heron is about to take off because he is looking away and placed near the edge of the painting. This is something Robert Bateman does quite often in his work, to add more interest and movement.
This is a wonderful 'off-size,' which is perfect for a hard to fill space on a wall. However, I like to remind my clients when purchasing these off-size originals that they usually have to be custom framed.

I created this painting from memory. It is a knife painting and is full of texture. I was experimenting with the thick and thin paint.

Over the Dike Too, Impressionistic Daily Painting

Over the Dike, Too
9 x 12 inches
Acrylic on Watercolor Paper
(ready to frame)

I am still amazed at the low water levels of our very large lake. Lake Okeechobee is the second largest fresh water lake in the US. But now it doesn't look like much. Mud, sand and new lime-green grass everywhere. All of the bright green areas used to be under water. I am fascinated by the brilliant colors. (Click here for a comparison of this same area back in November of 2006.)

I have been doing some of my paintings on watercolor paper. I love the overall texture, but I haven't gotten used to the wavy bumps. I'll go back and straighten up the horizon line on this one.

Up The Creek, Impressionism, Daily Painting

Title: "Up the Creek"
Size: 9 x 12 inches
Medium: Acrylic on Ampersand gessobord

Sold

This was created from one of my photos of Taylor Creek.
I love the reflections and the colors. I keep wanting to turn the painting over! Started to add some birds, tell me what you think. I think it may take away from the reflection, which is the main point of the painting. But I could add them, or one just in the reflection, that sounds cool. Ran out of time today, we went fishing. Perfect day.
