Grandma's Touch, mountain landscape with flowers

"Grandma's Touch"

About This Painting:
This actually began as a demo, then later I changed the color scheme and added more flowers and trees.... It reminds me of my grandmother's rock gardens in Montana. She loved working in her gardens. Some had flowers of every kind, and others had vegetables and strawberries. My fondest memories of her are when she taught me how to thin out the carrots, and to taste the difference in food you grew yourself compared to what we bought at the store.
Thanks for looking!
Ready to frame.

Fall Colors, landscape in autumn

"Fall Colors"
About This Painting:
Little watercolor study of the colors of fall. Something I saw in California in Oakview. The sun wasn't out much that day, but when it came out everything was so bright and colorful in this one little area. I took pictures of it from different angles.

Spring's Delight, mountain landscape, lake with flowers

"Spring's Delight"

About This Painting:
Fun little palette knife painting done completely from memory! Sometimes I just have to play with texture, and the palette knife is my favorite way to loosen up because it is so expressive. I just need a break sometimes from the serious detail and realism of some of my commissions.....
Thanks for looking!

Crashing Waves, seascape demo

"Crashing Waves"
About this painting:
Created this as a lesson, from several photos. I went back later and added more waves and details to finish it out. When I teach 'follow along' lessons or demos, I keep it very simple, as we try to finish a painting in two hours. It moves quickly, and it is a lot of fun. But we only get the basic ideas in. Some students will bring them back and add their own ideas or finishing details. I usually try to change mine some, and detail it out before I post it for sale, as I always feel like it needs work.
Ready to frame.

California Colors 2, landscape with a deer

"California Colors 2"
About this painting: I painted this from pictures I took out in Oakview just before Christmas. There were actually 2 deer together here , and before that I saw 3 in a different area! I was interested in the big old oak tree up on the hill, and the bright greens really set it off!
Enjoy!

California Colors, fall landscape with Montains and palms

"California Colors"

About This Painting:
Happy New Year!
This is from my recent trip to California, near LA. Painted this from memory of a car ride up in the mountains. I loved all the contrasts in foliage and rock! Then there would be palm trees in front of the mountains. Too cool.

Rollin Through, mountain landscape with barn

"Rollin' Through"

This is an older painting that I started as a demo last year, but I never finished it until now.
I remember watching the clouds roll up the mountain sides when I was 12. I lived in Montana with my Grandma Willi. This road reminds me of some of the old mountain roads my friends and I rode horses on up in the Rockies. We would go exploring and often find an old abandoned barn, usually in much worse shape than this one!

Endless Grace Again, angels with doves, flowers, and harp in mountain landscape

"Endless Grace Again"

About This Painting:
I have been in heaven painting these angels! This is a commissioned painting, so it is already sold.
The number 5 is symbolic for grace. Each angel has it's own color, and symbolism as well:
The purple angel is pouring out God's love through His Holy Word
The Burgundy angel is pouring out flowers that never die, they carry God's forgiveness and are symbolic for the Blood of the cross.
The yellow angel with the harp brings healing and joy into broken lives.
The white angel is releasing doves, which are symbolic for God's peace and the Holy Spirit which He gives to us for power to overcome the trials of this sin cursed world.
The orange angel is sounding the trumpet call: announcing Christ's return, the beginning of a new heaven and a new earth!

About This Painting:
Very fun little palette knife painting, from my Montana memories. Totally made it up out of my head! Usually, I use photos from my visits home, but this time I just wanted to see if I could do it. Quite proud of the results! I love the thick textures I get with the palette knife!

Fogged In, mountain landscape

Valley Floor, Mountain stream

"Valley Floor"

About This Painting:
Started this painting from a demonstration. Then I went back and moved some things around. I was just playing around, got carried away with the rocky cliff and the rocky creek.

I remember the water feeling like ice in Montana. Can't even put my toes in it now when I go back to visit, I can't imagine how we swam in it when we were kids! My friends and I would dam up an area with rocks, taking the ones from where we wanted it deeper, and moving them onto the dam. Had to choose a good spot for it: where the water was already close to knee-deep. We would get the water up to chest high or so within an hour or two, but we had to get out and warm up from time to time.
So many of us are going through hard times these days. I was thinking about the valleys of life. Sometimes you find good things in the valley too.

Natural High, Rocky Mountains

"Natural High"
About This Painting:
It is always an exhilarating thing to hike in the Rocky Mountains. I started this as a painting lesson, then went back and recreated it by adding details and sunshine. I did this from my memories of the Rockies in Montana. Not only do I get a natural high when out in such spectacular places, I also get them when I paint things that bring back such grand memories.
Enjoy!

Dreams of Lavender

"Dreams of Lavender"
14 x 18 inches
Acrylic on canvas

Sold

This is a larger format of an early painting I did called "Lavender dreams." It is a commissioned piece. I reversed the image and changed the field's angle to show the rows more. I really like the lighting and the depth.
If you see a painting you would like that is already sold, this is a good example of how I can create an original for you that is similar, but is changed in size and rearranged somewhat.

King of the Hill, winter sunset, compliment to blue

"King of the Hill"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
ready to frame
$450.00

This is the third limited palette in the blue series. I only used Ultramarine Blue, Orange (compliment to blue), and White. The white and orange make a nice peach glow, and the light blues set it off. No black this time, because compliments can be mixed together to get a blackish color. For grays I added white. It is amazing the amount of hues created just by mixing varying amounts of each color.
Enjoy!

Great Bear Wilderness, Montana winter

"Great Bear Wilderness"
8 x 10 inches
Acrylic on hardboard
ready to frame

This monochrome study is the first of a blue series I have started. I did it alla prima, or all at once. I used one hue of blue, Phthalo Blue, along with black and white to create the many changes in values. It gives the painting unity and balance.
I used a photo that my sister-in-law (Annette) took. Her and my brother go out snowcatting and skiing often.
Sure is good to think about the cold weather when it is 98 degrees and 100% humidity! Florida is just miserable in July and August! But that's the price to have nice weather the rest of the year!
Enjoy!

Sweet Summer, Montana Art

"Sweet Summer"
12 x 16 inches
Acrylic on canvas
(painting continues on sides, ready to hang, framing is optional)
$750.00

This is one of those paintings that holds far more than meets the eye. These are the Swede Mountains that I rode horses all over when I was 12 years old. There is a look-out-tower at the top. My friends would lend me a horse for the day and off we went, bare back, to see if we could get there. This mountain range continues off to the left, and stretches out for miles.

This pasture is the one that my brothers and I used to cross to go fishing. Libby creek is just behind the tall stand of trees. When I went back to my grandmother's old house last month I also went to the neighbor's house across the road (Paul and Virginia Miller). They were gracious and took me back behind their property where I saw this view and the floods of summer memories poured out again. I had to hold back the tears as I thanked them for including us in so many camping trips, berry picking adventures, and wonderful hikes up in the Rockies.
