Cypress Shores, landscape, egret and alligator, knife painting

"Cypress Shores"

Painted this palette knife painting from memory. It is from a fishing trip we went on last week. There were so many birds and alligators that I just had to add some, but the painting was really about the interesting shapes the cypress trees made with the morning sky showing through them.
The palette knife texture is thick and the colors are strong, I also like the way the contrast turned out this time.

Heaven's Answer, palette knife angel

"Heaven's Answer"

I really wanted to emphasize that the focus is not on angels, they are God's messengers, they always remind us of Christ. The fallen angels will show up as lost loved ones and try to keep us from moving on. They will do anything to keep our focus off of our hope. If we aren't careful we can forget where our thoughts and prayers should be.
God asks us in His Holy Word not to grieve as those with no hope. We have the hope of a great reunion because Jesus gave his life for us. The Bible also tells us to count our trials as joy (in the book of James), and also to look ahead and not behind (Hebrews 12 and Luke 9). With His strength, and his power we can do the things he asks. Believe me, it is not easy! If you haven't asked Jesus in your life, then that is the way to find this inner strength and power that He wants to give to you.

Changing Tides, set, seascape, beach sunset

"Changing Tides 1 and 2"

Wanted to exaggerate the texture of the sand, and really get the contrast to be the main element. It gives this scene a dramatic look. I am very happy with the way this one turned out! I plan to take it to my show at FAU next month. My display will showcase the palette knife paintings.

Set of 2 palette knife paintings,
Painting continues on all sides, no need to frame.

Bear Side, fall scene, mountain landscape

"Bear Side"

About This Painting: Tried another palette knife painting on gallery wrap canvas. The painting continues on the deep sides, so framing is not needed.

Painted this one from memory. When I go back home to visit my family in Montana and Washington State, I take a lot of pictures, especially if we go up in The Rockies. My older brother lives near Glacier National Park now, so I love staying at his house!

Instead of using my photographs, I made this one up as I went along. It was fun to change, add, and rearrange things until I found this composition, which is very strong because of the diagonal lines and the bright colors. I added the little bear near the tree line because I always see deer, or bear, or something, every time I go back!

Early Fall, mountain landscape with a stream

"Early Fall"

This painting started as a palette knife demonstration, then I added more details and color when I got home. The palette knife is perfect for water because it creates a sparkling effect. Let the paint dry and gently add the bright color over the top and the texture underneath grabs the bright colors....really fun to do.
Enjoy!

Ready to frame.

Stormy Sunset, skyscape, clouds, landscape

"Stormy Sunset"

Fun little palette knife painting. It has a somewhat abstract feel to it. I saw these very blue clouds against the stormy purple sky while I took my walk a few nights ago. It had just rained and the sun was going down, and the colors were changing fast all over the sky! I had to come home and paint it!

This little painting is on gallery wrap canvas, so the sides are deep and the painting wraps around the edges. It has a contemporary look to it. The canvas adds a grainy texture to it, plus it has the palette knife textures.
This painting continues on the edges, so framing is not needed.

Heavenly Hope, palette knife angel

"Heavenly Hope"

This angel reminds us that our hope is found in Jesus Christ. When we look to the cross and get our eyes off of ourselves, then we can find peace of mind and joy.
Joy doesn't mean that we have no pain, or that we are laughing and silly all the time, it just means that we are content and can accept the trials that come our way. We can thank our Father God and worship Him even in the midst of the trials. This is not for wimps! It is very hard to get your eyes off of what others have done to hurt you and forgive them, and it is very hard to sing and praise God when everything around you seems to be going wrong. Yet God asks us to trust him and believe that he will work it out for our good in the end. (James 1:2-4 and Romans 8:28)

This is a palette knife version of an earlier painting that I really liked, but wanted to see in a different technique. I like it much better this way! The textures make the colors jump off of the painting!

Enjoy!

Heavenly Connections, palette knife angel

"Heavenly Connections"

This is similar to "Endless Hope." It was a custom order that is in a larger format. I absolutely love painting these angels more than anything. They bring peace and joy to me in such abundance, and I send them on with prayers for those who view them. It is also a great reminder that Almighty God has put his angels around us to help us.
In the Bible angels are mighty warriors, and those who saw them fell down in fear! They can also seem like normal people, and we never realize they were angels. But often because of symbolism, we give them wings, and make them look like beautiful women. Which I am sure is very possible as well.

A little Spring, landscape with a natrual spring

"A Little Spring"

About This Painting:
From a painting demonstration for my kid's summer class. I added more detail when I got home. The lesson was on a limited palette. The kids each got to choose a color scheme. (This was my older group.) It was hard for them at first, but once they figured out they could add white and they could get grays, browns and blacks by mixing the colors together, then it became very fun! I love to see the light bulbs turn on as they try new things.
