Beaches hand painted on wood

Heart Beach, 8.5 x 10 inches on wood,
 $550.00 (free shipping in US)

Beach Shore, 8.5 x 11 on cheese board,
$550.00 (free shipping in US)

I did these just before the Covid19 shut everything down. I never had a chance to post them!
Original hand-painted art (not a pour!)  I use professional artist-grade materials.  I also sand the wood and clean it before priming it with a clear primer.
These were interesting and fun to paint.  My personal challenge was for the wood grain to become the sand.  I love the way they turned out with the wet sand illusion and the color changes.

I ended up closing my gallery and teaching center because all the art classes were canceled. It was very difficult after 7 years of pouring my life into it.  But it is turning out to be a good thing!

I am renting a room in town to take orders for custom framing because I live quite a ways out of town. I am building the frames at home in my garage.  That has worked out very nicely!  Much better than I expected actually. I also moved the large matting table into my small art studio at my house, so I can still cut mats and glass too.  This makes the corner for my easel a little crowded, but it works.

I am also taking commissioned orders, and creating custom-designed paintings for my clients.  I take orders via email or meet at the new office. I am working in my studio at home to paint animal portraits, vistas, ranches, etc.  The response has been amazing, I am so blessed to have so many followers and collectors! It has also been surprisingly nice to work at home again!

I miss teaching classes, but I do have some private lessons and semi-private lessons for friends and siblings going on, so that helps.

Reconciled, beach scene on wood

"Reconciled"
Hand painted, not a pour!

First of a new series I just started, I have several in progress....
I painted this on a cutting board.  Had to clean it up, sand it some, and seal it so the paint doesn't peal off.
I'm experimenting with the wood grain showing through for the sand.  This calls for thin layers of paint.  As always, I'm using professional mediums and paints to make my own transparent colors.
Loving it!

Wild Angels, egrets, stream, knife painting

"Wild Angels"
© Fawn McNeill 2007

This is an older painting that I always loved.
The morning that I took pictures of this stream, some of the foliage and mist looked like large beings. As I painted it, they began to look like angels. So I had to emphasized them.

I just put this painting in a new custom frame. (See below)

Timeless Moments, sunset beach, seashells

Timeless Moments
"His mercy endures forever." Psalm 136

Finished this painting a few months ago.  I haven't posted anything here in a long time.

This painting is full of thick impasto layers. I also added actual seashells, sea glass, sand dollars, and two hand sculpted clay items (a turtle in the foam, and a starfish on the shore.)  The clay items are a new element. I truly enjoyed creating them and painting them after adhering them to the canvas.  I'm using paper clay, which is clay with paper fibers added to make it stronger.  It is a lightweight clay and is something I want to explore further.

I was going through some personal issues when I painted this and thought about how somethings seem to transcend time. Some memories are as fresh as yesterday even though they happened years ago! Some things can happen in no time and seem like forever.  This led to the concept that we make time, it is in us and not just something that happens to us.  We choose to enjoy it, use it wisely, or do nothing with it.  So all of that is  flowing through this painting as the woman contemplates the vastness of it all.

I hid an angel in the sky, but not in the clouds per say, it is in reverse. The blue of the sky is in the shape of an angel by the clouds around it.  Makes it harder to find, but I wanted to make it bigger than the small ones I usually paint in the clouds.

Last Glimmer, sunlit Ixora flowers

"Last Glimmer"

This is an update to an older painting of Ixora flowers.
The evening sun highlights the leaves and some of the flowers. Beads enhance the effect. I darkened the background for a more dramatic effect and hid a little frog on one of the leaves.  (Too much fun!)

A Crab's Life, rocks and waves, mixed media

"A Crabs Life"

This is a take off from a painting I did years ago at the Bathtub Beach in Stuart, Florida.  It is part of my new series of mixed media art.  I zoomed in and abstracted it a little compared to the first painting ("Rock and Roll").

I used the large aquarium stones this time, with beads that catch the light at different angles. I painted a little crab in the rocks, which was totally spontaneous.  It made me laugh when I put the red beads on him for eyes.

The splash was built up in layers of paint.  I used more gel medium this time instead of the thick heavy gesso because the gel medium dries clear.  It also dries shiny, which was good for sparkle on the water.

Just Breathe, seascape sunset

"Just Breathe"

This painting has been through 3 phases over a few years.
First it was just a calm sea with soft sunset colors and a few clouds.  Then I added stronger colors and more detail, including bigger waves.  Finally, I added the girl and decided it was finished!

Enjoy

Broken Bricks Mural, ocean scene

I have been wanting to paint stones or bricks (or something) behind the stove for a few years now.  Once I got started it was really fun.  I decided to break the bricks open so I could look at more than just bricks on the wall while cooking...

My husband wanted birds, so I added the water and some birds!

Hard to see the angels, but there are two angels in the clouds.  That was my favorite part.

I made the wall look like broken plaster around the bricks to tie it all together.  Just sealed it with two coats of clear sealer.

Beach Sunset, mural

Got most of this mural done in my guest bathroom last fall.  Just added some more finishing touches and decided it is finally complete.   I love the way you can see the palm in the mirror in this shot.

(We've been making repairs and painting walls at my house.  I have discovered muscles in places I didn't know I could have muscles! Not fun at all.  So I had to get some murals going in order to help my feelings!  I have a new one in the kitchen too.  I'll post it soon. Want to make sure I'm finished first.)

The colors are much more intense than the images show.  It was fun!

Three is Not a Crowd, gumbo limbo trees, plein air painting

"Three's not a Crowd"
(Gumbo limbo trees)
© Fawn McNeill May 2018

I could not resist these challenging odd shapes and colors.  I struggled at first with the layout and also with the transitions in the trunks and roots of the trees.    Gumbo limbo trees have bright red patches of thin bark and some light gray areas too. They look like fake rubber trees.

Such a lovely time: a nice, cool, breezy day.  The trees looked like they were dancing together.

This is an original Plein Air (created on location) from Old Fort Park in Fort Pierce, Florida. I added extra details when I got home.

At Riverside, Egret, Palm, Indian River, Florida

"At Riverside"
(Stuart, Florida)
© 2018
Here is an older one I just love! Used some pictures I took during a paint-out at Riverside Park.  I walked all over the park for an hour in the morning, soaking in all the inspiring views before doing some sketches.

This egret was wading along the shore, and I got some pretty good photos of him catching fish.  I liked this one where he jumped up a few times.

This palm tree was one of two jetting out over the water.  The other palm was bent and crooked, but it was hard to get a good photo.

Lifting Fog, cardinal, turkey, deer, Florida art

 "Lifting Fog"

I worked on this painting off and on for a couple of years.  Just finished it in January, 2019, when I added the cardinal.  He was the whole point to begin with, so I was glad to finally put him in there!

The cardinal kept posing for me while I was scouting the area for a good place to set up my easel.  I did several small plein air (on location) studies farther down this muddy road.  I actually got my shoes wet taking photos of this old fence!

"Lavender Flight"

This is fun little abstract painting is part of my newest series of mixed media art.  I added some charms and beads for that extra sparkle. For some reason these mixed media paintings tickle me. Gentle Rain, hibiscus, mixed media, knife painting

"Gentle Rain"

A take-off from the realistic peach-colored hibiscus I did years ago, I wanted to create it with a palette knife.  But, I got carried away with the fun mixed-media ideas I have been experimenting with. (This painting is larger than most of my new mixed-media series.)

I built up the texture with thick 'heavy gesso' instead of acrylic modeling paste because it better receives the paint. I also added some aquarium stones and gems. I gave the drips of water a little extra shine, too.

Something about these fun pieces satisfies the little girl in me. They make me laugh. Maybe it's the rebellion from all the rules of creating fine art, the discovery of the right gems to embellish it, and/or just the newness of it all.

Very exciting! The colors and the sparkle are hard to see in this photo, but when the light hits the painting at different angles, they shout "Come back, look at me!" at shows, people stop, and they do a double-take.

Art Show

Had a great show at the end of January! (Been so busy that I didn't get a chance to post it.)

Showed some of my new mixed-media series, and some of my older originals. I  had such a large variety going on that I didn't think I would be in the mix to win an award.  Often times judges like to see a coherent body of work.

I sold some art, won a blue ribbon, and shared my testimony to many who asked about the meaning behind the paintings.  It was an awesome day.

Thank you Lake Placid Art League!  It was encouraging to be so well received by so many people!

Here are some pictures, Enjoy! (Click on an image to enlarge it).

Full Bloom, Tulips, mixed media, impasto painting

"Full Bloom"

Besides the wonderful contrast in value and color, this painting has thick impasto with added gems for a little sparkle from different angles of view!

News Event:  I will be in Sebring for an art show, and will have some prices reduced for the show!  (Lake Placid Art and Fine Crafts Show, on Hwy 27 at the Agri-civic center, just North of Hwy 98)

Honestly, I have not been so inspired in years. This new series of adding found objects, and/or using modeling paste and other materials to build up the texture is challenging and creates so many unique and interesting effects. I think I have finished close to 20 paintings in the last 3 months! Some of them have been sitting around unfinished for over a year!

Eternal Joy, angel, butterflies, mixed media painting

"Eternal Joy"

This is inspired by a small painting I did years ago called "Endless Song".  This one is less abstract, and the colors are lighter.  I used thick gesso to build up the hair, wings, and plants for an impasto feel.

I added beads to the headband, belt, and gown.  The 3 metal butterflies were the most fun because they fit so well with the colors I had already painted.  It's like a nice surprise. Adding a little iridescent paint to the wings, gown, and above the head gave it a nice shimmer. When the painting is viewed from different angles, it really catches your eye.

I can't explain how tickled I was when I added the extra bling, I felt like a kid.  I played with many combinations until I was satisfied with this layout.  The butterflies actually made me laugh!

Little Critters, azaleas, flowers, mixed media

"Little Critters"

Part of my new series of adding found objects to my paintings: This is actually an older painting that I have reworked.

First I made some corrections to the painting, and then I added a few beads and gems.  What a delight when the gems reminded me of tiny frogs!  After that, I added some glitter paint to tie it all together.  This one makes me laugh.

The painting continues on the sides, so framing is optional.

Merry Christmas, Tree, mixed media

Christmas Tree,
Original Mixed Media,
 on canvas, 14 x 18
SOLD

A little late, but I was very sick over the past week, didn't get to post these...
I did feel better on Christmas morning, and was so very thankful to get to enjoy my family!

Added lots of glitter paint on the ornaments.  I am enjoying the way they stand out when the light hits them a certain way.  My students are loving it and coming up with some amazing ideas!  I find myself joining them and feeling like a little girl as my youngest children get so excited when we start adding the extra bling.

Hope you had a great Christmas, and that your new year is full of love and many blessings!

Enjoy!

Treasured Memories, seashore, mixed media

"Treasured Memories"

This is the third painting in my new series: found objects and mixed media.

I added some of the seashells my grandchildren found with me.
The clear beads hardly show in the photo. Wanted extra sparkle in the splash.  When the light hits it at different angles it shines.

Not sure if I will sell any of these yet or not.  Will make a few more and then decide, so far they are too precious!

Size: 8 x 8 inches
Mixed media on cradled hardboard
